|
|
After reminiscing about a story surrounding a black out drunk event, I thought about all the good things that have come my way from this website.
Besides the countless hours of entertainment and information I've received from this site, I've been hooked up and helped out from many members on wb.com.
March 16, 2006
Spring break trip to Ventura, Ca to visit a friend. We spent a few days in Mexico and went up to Santa Barbara on the 16. Met up with Bethany that night. Started doing shots and the rest of the evening became a blur.
Our friend, the Ventura resident gets a dui when were leaving the bars. We were all drunk so no one could drive. He goes to jail and the car gets towed. It's 2 am on St. Patties day and I'm told I could barely stand. All of our luggage is at Ventura guy's apartment in Ventura. We are now stranded in SB at 2 am with only our cell phones.
I got Mike Isler's number in some wb.com messages before the trip in case we had time to meet up. Apparently I called him and asked for his help. He picked up myself and 3 of my friends and let us crash at his place. When I woke up, I had no idea where I was, but there was this extremely friendly guy working in a room of computers, cameras, and a bunch of other electronic equipment. He explained that I had called him and he had picked us all up in his Excursion and let us crash with him. He dropped us off in the downtown area of SB. The following 12 hours included us exploring the boardwalk and other touristy areas of Santa Barbara as well as figuring out how to get our friend out of jail AND getting back to LAX where our flights were leaving the next day.
Bethany happened to be driving to Ventura that afternoon. So she gave us a ride to Ventura from Santa Barbara (~30-40 minute drive) where we planned to break into our friend's apartment to get our stuff. Just as we get to his apartment, he calls us. He is out of jail and on his way. That night, we crashed at an apartment in LA that my other friend managed and made our flights the next morning. GREAT TRIP!!
Two months later, I visited Chicago with my then girlfriend lakeuor_chic. Muckmeister set us up with some tickets to a Cubs game. 4 years later, we went back to Chicago. Again, Muck was too busy to meet up but he gave us a number of different recommendations including a burger joint that is still the best burger I've ever had in my life. I still keep in touch with 8824.
Rocko and I met up shortly after I turned 21. Still friends to this day. If I ever get married, that guy will be in my wedding.
jt09 hooked me up with a car dealer friend of his this spring. I didn't buy a truck through him but JT got the ball rolling.
E.J. introduced me to some new cigars this summer. Since then I've been expanding my palate thanks to him.
I've messaged many people on this site and received some great advice, recipes, and recommendations. I never thought checking out a wakeboarding site for trick tips 10 years ago would have resulted in what it has. Thank you to everyone! _________________

Met several people through here.
Got to reconnect with JassonSSR and witness someone way too tall to do inverts on a wakeboard but still pull them off well.
Swass converted my personal statement for law school from a turd to at least a shiny turd.
JT09 almost single handedly made my friends daughter win an online contest.
Got to help a few of the local folks with easy legal issues.
Got in more dumb arguments that I care to remember.
Witnessed more stupidity than I care to remember either.
All in all, been pretty fun. |

| forgot about this one - dragonlady entered me into an online contest w/ a picture that had been posted on here when i was in dallas hanging out / jason ssr, premierchick135, and raiderlefty. i won, and was astroglide's sexiest man. they sent me a $500 gift basket, but damned if i can find the pictures of all of it - there was SO much stuff. 2 big boxes. all kinds of astroglide, t-shirts, hats, chocolate, dvds (not porn), a badass picnic basket that i still have, all kinds of bath salts/lotions, victoria's secret gift certificates that i sent to dl. girls LOVED those shirts and all the lube - i had like a dozen little ~4oz bottles and a half dozen shirts, half dozen hats, maybe 100 one shot ketchup packet sized samples. gave that out at the titty bar and downtown like candy. even wrote the marketing chick back about 6 months later and asked for more - she sent another 500 sample packets and another dozen shirts/hats. |

| I met three people on this website in Wisconsin and went wakeboarding. Wakeboarding has slid since I joined this site in the early 2000s, a lot us still remember the switch from the old forums to these. Looking at the date, wow it has been 10.5 years since that switch. Toast to all wakeboarders, I don't do it anymore, but I slide in to check out the new gear. If only gas would fall back to 1.20 |

Jumalian became one of my best friends while I was living in CA, I would drive down and pick up his ass almost every weekend for us to go mooch off of someone else's boat.
Also, because of this site I met and became friends with Nauty and Wakebrad. For quite a few years we were a really tight crew. Priorities change as we get older and we drift apart, but we still keep in touch; both were at my wedding. I love those guys.
More recently I started riding with Funkybunch. Awesome guy, we both have young kids so we get on the water super early and are off the lake in time to go spend the whole day with our kids.
I love this site, this site was my saving grace during some really rough years in college. Plenty of flame wars and Scotta tearing newbie's a new one mixed with some great advice from Leggester and many others who I sort of viewed as big brothers.

Good thread.
When I moved to FL in 2002 and knew nobody I joined here looking for people to ride with. I met a guy Dave, and then met another guy Dale...and these guys introduced me to some other local riders and basically these people are the foundation of all my friends here now. These folks were never really on here that much, and certainly not now, but basically this site introduced me to all my FL friends.
I also took some guys from out of town riding who posted in "looking for a ride" or whatever that forum is called, and am still good friends with these people. My friend Frank from Boston who vacations in my house every winter, my buddy Paul who is from FL but was living in Hawaii when I met him and wanted to ride over break--he went to Annapolis and served aboard submarines and is now married with two kids, great guy, I took that dude from Australia riding, and actually Aubs moved down here and I have taken her riding a couple times--she is a wonderful, smart, ambitous young lady--if ya'll have not met her.
I'm sure I've met a bunch of other folks from here along the way. Anywasy, two thumbs up for wb.com |

I've met quite a few guys who were local who I don't think post here anymore.
Haugy came into auburn for a came a few years back with the wife. Asked me what I was up to that night so I invited a few friends over and told haugy to come by and drink. Shows up with a handle of Jim Beam as a party favor. It was a pretty long night of drinking.
Damn I think that was my freshman or sophomore year. |

I've had the pleasure to meet a few folks through this site and some are really good friends now. Obviously, I don't have the history of being around since the beginning like a lot of you. It's cool to read about the friendships that have developed and the fun times. Good idea for a thread! _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

It's weird to think about, but I have kind of grown up on this forum. I joined as dumassonwheels89 on 1/25/03 when I was 13 and kind of learned the rules of the internet on here
Just reading through my old posts makes me cringe! They shouldn't let 13yr olds on the internet! _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

I bought my first wakeboard boat off this site from NAW. Drove to Chicago and picked up. I sold that same boat on this site a couple of years later. I'll probably end up trying to sell the one I have now on this site at some point.
I've also received a bunch of good advice from people when I've been in their areas. Muck put me on some awesome out of the way restaraunts and a nice hotel in Chicago. |

How could I forget D$, who was here in Sac 2 summers ago to hang out with some chick he met in ATX who I also happened to know (not like that).
Weeks/a month later Fids comes through town but instead of crashing with me like the first trip he stays with D$'s friend, can't blame him she was running around with a squad of bikini clads all weekend.
