Need some suggestions for a good place for a quick, weekend trip. I'm dying to travel again, so a trip in August will help. I have a few suggestions, but please add some more that I might not be thinking of. Trying to use my Delta miles, so I am trying to stick with big hubs for Delta.
- Atlanta - know a bunch of people there, loved touring the vineyards in N GA last time I was there.
- Nashville - great music/bar scene and just a fun place to go (Doesn't go with my Delta points easily though)
- Washington DC - love going there but can be super expensive for hotels near the city or metro.
Suggestions welcome... |

Are you going by yourself, looking to check out sights, sit on a beach, sporting events, museums, party, just relax, etc.? May have some better suggestions depending on criteria and if there will be others going.
If we're taking a long weekend that doesn't involve the beach (generally we're going to a beach), it's usually Vegas or Chicago depending on what we're looking to do. Chicago has really started growing on me for some reason. We just got back from a 3 day weekend on Sunday and had a great time as always. It's expensive and my wife usually spends too much, but it's a good trip and we'll be back that way in September.
From your list, I hate D.C. I would much rather go to Boston, but I'm not a museum, historical sights, guy at all. Nashville is always good for a long weekend when it's warm. I'm not big on Atlanta, but if you're going alone there's something to be said for going where friends are. Gives you something to do. |

i always want to go west. Vegas, Tahoe, Napa, Portland area... depending on what we want to do.
BUT - since I saw your post in the other travel thread, i see you have Napa planned in October.
What about somewhere on the coast in the Carolina's? _________________ Work SUX! |

Key West
Tampa
NYC
Houston
Memphis
Little Rock

Out of these, I recommend New Orleans, Tampa, Key West, NYC, Vegas or Boone
Places I want to go for a long weekend:

What exactly are you looking to achieve? What's your budget?

| Delta has a huge hub in Aruba, with tons of flights. Why not shoot down there for three nights? I can make suggestions as to where to stay-depending on what you're looking for (a.i., pay as you go, night life, relaxing on the beach, etc.) Aruba was the most favorite island I've ever been to. |

Because she lives in SoFlo and it does not look like another tropical destination is on her list.
I saw you thought about Cali, that sounds like a good idea, go west. Otherwise, as odd as it may seem have you been to Philly? Just thinking you might be interested in the history there. |

Do not come to Portland, unless you like pan handlers and homeless people.
It is completely out of control downtown in the last 5 years. _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian? |

4 hour plane ride for a long weekend would be hell. you're in the airport/plane longer than you're on the ground. |

You would think that but with the time difference not so much. Do it all the time. Just take the red eye inbound. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Aubs,
I can't say much about D.C, I've been there only when I was in 8th grade for about a week. Atlanta is nice, theres a lot to do there with the aquarium, the braves, coca cola stuff, and then of course nightlife.
As far as Nashville, it's a goood town, and theres a lot to do on music row, and I'm sure you'd like that since you're a big country music fan. |

Flights out west are super expensive, unless I want to have 2 layovers. I don't want beach because I live on the beach, so I can just walk 100yds to the beach any time I want.
Boyfriend would be traveling with me as well. We're both into history, sports, love doing Wine tastings, etc. Needs to be a Fri to Sun trip - I teach year round so it is difficult for me to take days off.
Philly was awful. Love DC but can be expensive.
Gnar - didn't know about those so I will check 'Em out. Thanks all!!!!! |

For a Fri-Sun trip I would just find somewhere you haven't been that you can fly direct out of wherever you live that is a 2 hour or less flight. I remember you're in FL, so I would just pull up Delta's East coast routes out of whatever airport you can fly out of and narrow it down that way. If you get into plane changes, anything can happen that can screw it up.
If you can get into Chicago easily, it would be at the top of my nonbeach list. Between a Cubs game, river tour, walking Michigan, and hitting up the art museum or Fields museum you can easily burn a weekend. Plus the transit system is $2.25 a trip.
Dallas is also an easy flight and there's more than enough going on there to keep you occupied for a weekend.
If you're wanting to go more historical, then if you can get into Charleston/Savannah easily that would be a good option. |

| Or just go to Cancun or San Juan. Most major cities in FL have direct flights to both. |

brew - LOVE Charleston and Savannah - might have to drive there though, but that's a long drive. Flights are NOT cheap.
brew - Boyfriend's passport just expired and he hasn't renewed it yet, so trying to have him get that taken care of asap. Don't want to book anything until he has it in his hand. |

You're not that far from Miami Passport office. I've know a few people who went there and got it the same day. Can be an all day affair though. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

| Yeah, I keep reminding him of that. But after driving 3 hours from Orlando to here, then 1hr + to Miami just to sit all day would not go over well. He's going to send it in soon, usually only takes 6-8wks to get back. Just don't want to risk it and book something until passport is in hand. |

Officially booked! Chattanooga, Blue Ridge Mountains, Dahlonega, and Atlanta. 5 days of the south that I have so dearly missed! |

Dragonlady8, just saw this... At least out here, the Passport office will not issue on site without 2 things: 1) an appointment; and, 2) travel docs showing booked intl travel in 2 weeks or less.
Official time from door to door on a passport right now is 4-6wks. Word is that they are moving faster than that at present. _________________

i do not believe the chicago office requires you to show your travel docs. you just need an appointment. so miami office may be different as well. |
