So a bit of background -

learned how to ride behind a Seadoo Utopia 185. It was my first boat while in college, and I had no idea really what I was doing. Easy to learn how to drive, and was cheap! Wake was non existant, but that wasn't necessarily all bad for my skill level.

Been riding the last 4 years behind a 2001 Mastercraft Maristar 210 without ballast. Last year we started adding the fat sacs, but the boat is underpowered under load. It's a friends boat, but I have full access to it anytime, so it's been great. Wake is alright, but still a little work going w2w. Despite the years i've been riding, I've progressed much slower than I'd like due to adult responsibilities.

I have been considering getting my own boat again and I have a friend who is the local Tige dealer. Went out demo'd the RZ4 and the Z3 yesterday. It was unreal. No effort w2w, pop as much as I want, and silky smooth.

I am green with envy when it comes to you guys who ride on newer boats.

thats a good question, i'll look when I get home.
.. I wasn't able to see a stamp on the prop, but when asked, my friend (the owner) said he put a high altitude prop on, but was unsure of the actual pitch.

Good day on the water yesterday regardless. Felt good.

I'm shocked you can't get a big wake on the Maristar. I have seen those throw some of the biggest wakes ever. BUT the newer wake boats are engineered to give not only a big wake, but a hard wake, so you really feel the pop.

No, you're not the only one feeling this way. We have an older Chaparral I/O with dual prop. Not ideal, but it's free (my father in-law's). The wake is very large when weighted and trimmed right, but when I ride with my friend who has an 05 Supra Launch, even though the size of wakes are comparable, the pop is 2-3 times as effortless behind the Supra. And yes, I am envious. I have no idea how everywhere I look in my city, people are towing 08 and newer mastercrafts and malibus. I have no idea how they are all paying for them. I expect I will throw down on a wake boat of my own in the next 2-3 years, but it will be an older boat for around $25k. I will not have a second mortgage for a boat.

Happy dreaming.
