I have only ever ridden behind a boat. I have never been to a cable park or tried winching. I don't actually have a boat myself (or the funds to get one). Getting a winch on the other hand could be a very real option.

From the videos I have seen on youtube it looks pretty fun, but also looks like a lot more effort/set up etc. for a lot shorter rides. I wanted to hear from some people who do it. How does it compare to riding behind a boat?

Silly question I guess, but: Is Winching Fun????

yes it is fun!! as long as you have (natural) obstacles, kickers or drops to hit. it is probably one of the best ways to wakeskate too.

Dude sweet video. That does look like a blast. How long do you guys usually go out for when you do it? Do you find that it helps your skills when you get back behind the boat??

we go out for at least three hours cuz you dont make that much runs.. also it CAN take a lot of time setting up, since we have to transport the kicker and the floaters and the weights and the winch and then set everything up in place. worth it though!
it's way different then boat riding and uses different techniques, you're not wakejumping or edging a lot. but any riding helps build up boardfeel and experience.
