I officially hate jetskis.

I was riding this weekend and this jetski kept following me to jump my wake. It kind of scared me because it kept getting closer. After I thought it went away, I soon found it after it almost hit me. I crashed while riding and as soon as I did the jetski raced by me. It missed me by a couple feet and just drove off. Scared the crap out me though.

Why jetskis feel like they have to be idiots is beyond annoying.

it's not the jetski per se, it's the muppet riding it having no regards to other people's safety and over estimating their own ability to react.

often i find that if there're fellow lake users that are acting/driving/riding in ways that i feel uncomfortable with, i try to be VERY polite and have a quick chat with them to let them know my concern. treat people with respect and often they react positively. good luck and safe riding! Surprised

That is very true. I tend to always stay with people that act more mature and responsible. Thanks!

Once you crash if your boat driver can get close enough to the jetski have him give a quick lesson about staying away from the rider. He can do it as politically correct or incorrect as he feels. I have been on the boat a number of times when this has happened and both times we have given the jet ski person encouragement on where they can take the jetski. Smile

Sometimes they just do not know about it. Once you tell them some of them get it. you can also flag down a lake patrol and let him know and they will normally run down the jetski.

flixmaster, yeah that is true, but this all happened so quickly that nothing was able to be done. My dad was furious but did not have time to flag down the jetski person because he had to get me.

Yes and then when they do finally notice they are going to run you over, they dump the throttle and steer hard in either direction. Duh rule #1: no power, no steering

Qveon, That was one of the very first things I was taught on here: no power turns.

wakechick13, funny, I always call them "cockroaches" too. As a wakeboarder and as someone who makes a living on the water I can't even begin to recount how may close calls I've had with those effin' things. HATE THEM. Unless of course its pulling a boarder...

HHI Dave, How funny! I have always called them roaches ever since I was a little girl. Coming close to one of those things is freakin scary!

We are always on the lookout while pulling for skis and boats that are following too close or what not.

Jumping the wake while you have a rider is a huge no-no. Getting close to a fallen rider is another. Following too close, another.

You need to warn these people when they get close or run them down and explain the issue. I keep an airhorn handy to get people's attention. More times than not everyone in the boat is pissed, especially me, because some clown has just endangered a family member or friend's safety. The convos normally don't go well, but they get the point and stay away.

Rhawn, Haha, yeah my dad was pretty pissed by the roach just drove off. See I agree, there is a difference between riding a jetski and being an idiot.

Just sold my 94 waverunner III for $850, spent a couple years wakeboarding
behind the jetski practicing 180's and riding switch, wrapped, cuffed, and when the malibu hit a rock used the jet ski to get out on the water while the boat was getting fixed! also towed the jetski down to florida for riding and fun! Great way to get out on the water for less than a grand.

I have a loud hailer hooked up to my tower speakers and a Tippman 98 Custom under the dash if they dont understand the verbal warnings. The tippman has come out 6 times and only fired once. Nothing like paintballs to the hull to grab attention at the subject Twisted Evil

Carry a pistol and just shoot at them. They tend to avoid you after this.
