Bayliner 185BBR
4.3L Merc Alpha 1
Stock 3 blade 23p prop or 4 blade solas 19p prop same same issues.
Tried dedicated wires from battery, tried new tach signal/discconecting tach, tried different props, trim. Techs from Perfect pass have sent me new brains and gps pucks, no avail. They are pretty much stumped.
From my standpoint it looks like the first couple of 'wakeboard mode' runs your boat is falling off plane. You may have to use your PP above 20 MPH or so to avoid this area.
In the last video it looked like, despite the hunting, that the speed was starting to settle. This was when your set speed was significantly above your plane speed, so your boat falling off plane shouldn't have affected it. You might try the various settings (Kdw, etc) with this higher speed, if you haven't already.
It looks like everything is connected correctly, etc, as RPM mode works fine and your throttle connection appears to be moving smoothly. At this point, my $.02 would be to avoid <20 MPH and try the different settings at the higher speed (22.5 or whatever). I've heard of people adding a 'fin' to their outdrive and also trim tabs to help their boat plane better - this might be something to look into.

Only so much PP can do for an I/O if you don't have the right prop in the first place. I would think the 19P 4 blade would have helped.
I recall reading a thread many years ago about someone having to put a capacitor in their connection to the PP module and it worked like a champ from then on. Do you have a high-output alternator? _________________

Hmph...I was actually going to try your capacitor idea. As for prop normally i run a 14" 19pitch 4 blade SS. Problem remains and i cant notice it being better or worse.
What size Cap do you think? Generic Alternator _________________ Reserved for future

I honestly have no idea it was so long ago, but I do recall that guy was using a HO alternator and seemed to think that was the reason he needed the capacitor. Thread was on this forum, though, so run a search and I'll bet you find more info. _________________

Ok before i get flamed, its just a prototype. If this is the route i go ill laser cut and cnc lathe much better parts. _________________ Reserved for future
Whatever works, works! It looks like it solved your issue.
Did you do that to reduce the amount that PP adjusts the throttle?
That should have been adjustable with the software, but I'm glad to see you've got something that works!
No i made that lever cause it seemed the PP had a fixed pull amount. It does make it less aggressive too, and there is a software setting for it, but i had that all the way down and it was still horrible. So now with the lever the PP's movement of the throttle lever reduced 60%. Stock if PP called to move the throttle 1" to correct, the lever reduces its throw at the fulcrum to 3/8" _________________ Reserved for future
Wow i cant believe this. All Perfect Pass wants to do is issue me a refund. They are not willing to work with me at all on this. They don't want to get into "Trial and Error" testing with getting this to work. Even though i gave them the numbers, all they want me to do is "Rotate Servo" tests constantly which all that is doing is flooding my engine all the time. Some customer service. Very expensive product for what it is. So everyone heed my advice before you consider the $1200 drop. They will send you replacement parts till you are blue in the face, but outside with that, they dont seem to care to improve their product.
What would you do? Take the full refund or design my own fix with my access to a laser cutter and CNC lathe? _________________ Reserved for future
