I don't know about the wake but pretty much any boat of that era is going to be pretty brutal in the chop. They are ski boats and had really flat bottoms to minimize the wake, some can be pretty good when weighted but that flat bottom doesn't cut the surface it just smacks onto it. Most wakeboats suck in rough water, the hulls aren't designed for it. If the water is really rough and ride matters I'd look more towards an I/O and then set it up for wakeboarding.

The echelon is a low freeboard ski boat. It might put out an ok wake but you will not be able to put much weight in it. Like ridininmd said ski and wakeboard boats pretty much suck in choppy water. You need to evaluate where you will be boating and how much you wakeboard, ski, surf to know what kind of boat you want. The wakeboard wake and surf wake are good on the boat below though. notice how much more freeboard you have on this boat compared to the echelon.

I was actually looking around for a sunsetter when I came across the Echelon. It was priced right but I think I will keep looking for a Sunsetter or prostar 205 or Sunscape. I found a cherry 85 sunscape 5 miles from me but I think I want to get away from the wood.

don't know your price range but this one looks like it has been well taken care of.
