after having just landed my first tantrum to blind yesterday, was just relaxing doing some simple fashion airs and 180's when i managed (to my surprise) a good double up, grabbed a 180 went straight to flat. my right knee gave way inwards as i landed, was taken straight to hospital and am now waiting for my xray/MRI scan results.

while i'm feeling funny from the cocktail of anti-inflammatory pills and injection, ibupofen that i took waiting for the ambulance and whatever painkillers they've been feeding me, it doesn't feel that good to look down and see your knee swollen to the size of a melon and looking crooked. sorry for the rant here, but i'm bored out of my mind in the hospital after the nurses stopped letting me cruising around the hospital in a wheelchair.

urgh.

ediotism, Ugh, always a scary thought in the back of my head when I ride. I know it's going to happen, I feel like it's just a matter of when.

Hopefully it's not something too insane and you're back on the water soon. Here's to a quick recovery!

good luck with the recovery friend. Hoping its nothing serious.

I fell three years ago and lived with a torn ACL and meniscus tear until the first of this month I finally had surgery.

I was still able to wakeboard and workout the past couple years by wearing a neoprene stage 2 knee brace that did wonders keeping everything lined up.

I'm rehabbing my knee now and when I get back out on the water next summer, I'll still be wearing that knee brace on my knee. But not only that, I'll get one for my right knee as well. With those on my knees I feel so much more protected and while, they may not prevent catastrophe that we experience sometimes, they definitely saved me a couple times from a wake case or flats landing that would have obliterated me if I didn't have the brace on.

Look into a brace! And only wear it wakeboarding, I hear that wearing them too often makes your knee weaker (if you wear it all day every day). Talk to your doctor about it!

Best of luck, heal up!

thanks all, reading your replies have made me feel a lot better overall!

my missus actually tore her ACL (complete tear) on the SAME date last year, just riding switch between the wake in the same set having just jumped her first wake to wake. proper decent pop and tension too, none of that hard charge slicing across the two wakes that most of us hacks did when we first rode Laughing

when she tore hers, i did all the research/arrangements etc for her, took her to physio religiously since she's lazy and downplays how important it is towards recovery even when everyone has repeatedly told her so. i've learned all the exercises that she had to do, which i do with her but i carry a 15kg dumbell in my hands when i do (to help build power). she has a robocop style ACL brace from don joy which i MAKE her wear whenever she wakesurfs (still not back on the wakeboard since she's been lazy with physio etc). as for myself, my results will be out tomorrow and hopefully there aren't too much tearing/fractures going on - i know that best scenario i'll be wakesurfing with a softbrace for at least two weeks...

come to think about it, both of us were probably not paying full attention to riding since we landed something new and were feeling top of the world, and that's when accidents happen. hope everyone can use this as a gentle reminder to always respect what a board strapped to your feet going 23mph on water can potentially do.... safe and happy riding everyone! Surprised

the doctor came back with all the scans this morning, the situation is less than ideal.

i've torn 75% of the ACL, which will need reconstruction. the Meniscal ligament has dislodged a piece, jamming my knee in one place. that needs to be taken out and the ligament repaired. there's some bone bruising which will need some minor repair. there's some slight tearing at the thigh too which is quite minor compared to the rest.

i've agreed to getting surgery to fix it all up. if i work hard at physio (which i will), i should be wakesurfing in 6-7 months and back in bindings in around the same time. it's gonna take a while to get tricks back, especially the new trick which i haven't dialled in...

i guess you guys will be seeing a lot of my posts in the mean time Laughing

Sorry to hear man, but hopefully you get it reconstructed asap and you can still get back out there in time for next season like you said.
