|

I've been riding a hyperlite factor 140 and hyperlite movement 140 for 5 years. I bought them at a sport's store and after some research I believe they are both 2005 versions.
I'm 6'0 155 lbs. My question is how much does the board matter? I currently get 4-5 ft of air ts and hs, and I am struggling to land inverts. I ride behind a Searay select 200 I/O.
Would a different board really make a difference in my riding? And does the boat I ride behind put out a decent wake compared to other boats.
Thanks. |

I would agree with TnR6rida a new board could make a world of diff. See if a wake shop will let you demo one. _________________ Ride or Die |

in addition to changes in bottom features, board have grown wider which means they can be shorter.
i'm the same weight as you and the common board size to use now is 134-138, 140 is a bit big for a more modern board. |

| This was my exaxt beginner board. To put it nicely it pretty much sucks. opinions vary greatly but the watson classic is an awsome board to upgrade to. It does not have to be new. I think they started making them around 07ish and they are still in production today. That says a lot ritht there. They didn't call them classic until around 09ish i think when there started being a lot more styles of the watson. You can pick one of these up with some good bindings and you will be blown away at the difference. JMO. |

| If I were to get a new board. Would I know a huge difference from a 136 and a 140 if it was the same type of board? |

Not a huge difference but a difference i mean its going to be a huge difference just because of how much newer it is I the 140 will fit you better should make the landings a little softer _________________ Ride or Die |

I'm sure the board is good I would go with a different graphic though kind of looks like a poser board but that's my opinion _________________ Ride or Die |

That board is a Hyperlite Marek. Good board, it is Rusty Malinoski's pro model. May not be the best board for you given what board you are coming from. It will be a pretty aggressive board.
Check out some of the package deals from this site- (same ownership as this wakeboarder.com)

You do not have to spend a lot to get a good set up. You don't need to worry about having the top of the line gear to be able to progress and ride well. |

Yea I'm wondering how the change from a straight beginner board to that board would be. I have never even been on anything but a beginner board. I'm a pretty aggressive rider though. I load the line pretty hard hs and ts.
I don't want to get a newer board because they are so expensive. I feel like this board is probably a good opportunity and I'll just have to make the adjustments and learn how to use it. I have just been stubborn about buying a new board because I never think of the board or the boat as to why I can't land a trick. I'm starting to think a new board could help me progress faster though.
And I could care less if it looks like a poser board. I don't take board graphics into consideration when I'm looking at what boards would be better for me. |

Hey All,
I just wanted to contribute my 2c into this. My brother in law and I started riding at the end of last season. We started riding a costco special Hobie wakeboard with continuous rocker with 2 outside fins. After riding a few times I decided I liked wakeboarding and wanted to buy a board, so I bought a LF PS3 because it was a mid range beginner/intermediate board. The PS3 has a 3 stage / HYBRID rocker. I noticed that even without the middle fin on the board, the board was quite a bit grippier on the water than the hobie with continuous rocker. It really didn't take long to get used to the PS3 though and we were popping off the wake pretty quickly.
This weekend my brother in law goes out and buys a Ronix District board. Well let me tell you that the difference between the PS3 and the District is IMMENSE. Even though the boards are both considered mid range Intermediate boards. The 3 stage rocker on this board pops you off the wake with so little effort it is amazing.
That being said, the district is much less forgiving than the PS3. haha. The distric has sharper edges and when you catch one, you faceplant fast. haha.
In the end, I think the equipment DOES make a difference and you should get a board that fits your riding style and size.
The PS3 was perfect for learning on, learning to edge and get wake to wake. But once you are getting wake to wake and comfortable, you are going to want more pop than a hybrid rocker provides.
Also keep in mind, we are riding behind a 1996 glastron skiboard with fat sacks in it. haha. The wake is quite poor and small.
