When you are going slow idle does your boat move from side to side about 10 feet each way while holding the steering wheel straight? I have a Glastron that does that but when I watch other boats they are doing the same thing. Is this something common with I/O boats? The boat will not go straight when in a slow idle....

I've never had that happen to me and I've driven all types of boats. Is there a strong current or wind where you go?

No Current or wind, I've noticed other people who are driving I/O boats doing the same thing, turning wheel back and forth to stay going straight when going slow through "No Wake" channels...

i know what you mean.. it is more difficult to stay straight when going at a lsow speed then if yuo were crusing.. most people over rotate their turns when trying to adjust sending the boat from side to side.. its normal no big deal just takes practise to not over do your adjustments and keep a staright course. i know waht you mean though.. no harm

I think it's over compensation in the steering. The response when you turn the wheel doesn't immediately affect your direction, so you hold the wheel longer and there you have your 10' turn

I believe it is over compensation while at slow speed. We have have an inboard Nautique...It takes a little practice. The boat does not immediately respond to turns at slow speeds.

Its a common problem at slow speed. Think about how a flag waves in a light breeze and how it looks in a stiff wind. Those same forces work in water too. Each side of the drive/hull will have a different pressure and it wanders back and forth. I just get it pointed straight and let it go. It goes back and forth but pretty much stays in a straight line.
