So I'm browsing around today and found a good deal on an 89 byliner with the 2.1 Volvo motor and outdrive. I recently got hooked on this hobby behind a bayliner with the omc 2.3 sp I know it'll be enough to learn behind. My question is once I get beyond this newbie phase am I going to wish I'd got a boat with a bigger motor? My main draw to this boat is that gas will be cheap but will I be able to make a bog enough wake with it??

hmmm... 2.1 liter sounds really small. I am wondering what will happen when you have 4 or 5 poeple in the boat?? Get a boat with a larger motor and ask for gas money when your friends come out. my .02

nope. look for something with at least a 4.3 if you want to run with ballast.
