|
|
Hey everyone,
So we recently bought a 2009 wake setter vlx, absolutely love the boat. Having a hell of a time figuring out how to make a solid surfing wake though. It isn't churning a clean wake at all. The boat we have has ballast tanks in the back (250 on each side) and a front ballast (250) but not center ballast, plus the wedge. I was told that the best wake for surfing is at around 10mph with the wedge 3-4 clicks up from all the way down and only the surfing side ballast tank full, but this creates a completely whitewater wake that really isn't surfable.
Does anyone have a similar setup that would be willing to help me out with how to dial in a solid surf wake? I know these boats are capable of making one, I just haven't found the right combo yet.
Where should the wedge be?
Which ballast tanks should be full you think? (Obviously the back side where the surfer is, but the front tank also or no?)
Any help would be appreciated! _________________ live it up |

you need more than your factory tanks i think, might consider getting a sac to go in the rear locker on top of the tank, probably a 750lb, and another to go in rear seat on that corner of the boat too _________________ Lithic, LLC, my biz

was on my buddy's VLX a couple weeks ago and they were surfing easy with the port side tank filled and everyone sitting on the port side (4 people). i'd say a single sack on the port side will do it unless you have passengers to shift around. _________________ 1988 Supra Sunsport

In my 08 VLX:
Fill Port locker, extra port locker sac, center, and extra ski locker bag under port seats, 10.7mph, wedge all the way down
(I like extra the front added to this to make it longer)
or
Starboard, extra starboard locker sac, center, 11mph, wedge all the way down
Get yourself some extra sacs for your lockers...all the difference in the world. Got all mine at Boardstop _________________ Wake up and Ride! |

In playing with the wake, Ive noticed I can get a clean surf wake on the starboard side pretty easily with just the starboard and front ballast full as well as the wedge down, but the port side is really washed up with the port, front ballast, and wedge down. Does this possibly have to do with the way the prop spins/churns the water as it comes out from under the boat, making a cleaner starboard wake than port side wake? _________________ live it up |

I have the same problem with my VLX.
Starboard is usually really clean for me, and I get a bit of a wash on the Port. We played around with it last week and we got it to clean up with a little more bow weight (200lb guy sitting in the port side bow seat). |

| I have been putting 700 pounds of lead on the port side, filling the center and port side rear tank and running the wedge 2 clicks below half way down |
