|
|
My wife and I will be looking for a boat in the next year. We are looking to spend 45k or less, and we aren't sure whether to buy new or used. We plan to keep the boat for 5-10 years without upgrading.
Requirements:
Length: 20-23ft
Passengers: 4-8 adults on a regular trip
Uses: Wakeboarding 40%, Salom 20%, Cruising 15%, Beached 15%
Beginner to intermediate in wakeboarding and salom. We would also like the option to try out wakesurfing.
We also plan to put down about $10k if that matters. Would we be better off buying a new boat or used one? Any boat suggestions are welcome. |

| I don't think you can buy a new wakeboard boat for 45K anymore |

| Anyone have any opinions about the Axis A20 or the Moobma Outback V? |

| Tige owner myself but I checked out the Axis A20 at the Liquid Force Free for All at Wake Nation Houston this weekend and it looked to be a really solid boat. The 20' seemed a little small in the cockpit area but I loved the black coating this paticular model had on the tower. I f you wait until next year you might be able to score 2012 close out for a descent price. |

You are gonna have a hard time getting a slalom wake out of the axis. If you took the slalom out I would say go for the axis. The outback v is a ski boat so you will get a good ski wake, an ok wakeboard wake and it should put out a decent surf wake.
Your best bet would be a used sport nautiuque 200 or 226. IMO those are the most versitile boats out there. |

| She just cruises around on the slalom, she isn't competitive. Does that make a difference? Also, does anyone have advice on new vs used if we plan to keep it for 5-10 years? |

What about the other 10% of usage?
I thought I heard that the A20 put out usable ski wakes, could be wrong.
I think loans on a used boat will be harder and/or more interest depending on the year. |

harenheadpaul, I had to do the math about ten times before I realized what you meant. |

Anyone get a used boat loan recently and have some details? I know we will be looking at 2005-2012 boats. |

If it was me dropping 45K on a boat it would be an Axis A22. If she is not that serious about slalom go with the axis. I don't know anybody yet that does not like wakesurfing. You will probably get more into that the older you get. The A22 is a big 22 ft. boat and you will probably sell the thing(if you keep it in good condition) for just a little less than what you bought it for 10 years from now. It has a world class wakeboarding wake and a great surf wake. It is a very solid boat that can handle a lot of weight with no problem and is made by malibu boats. Thats my opinion. |

| Beaching a V-drive boat never seems like a good idea. |

Everytime i see a used Axis(which is extremely rare in my area) it's still 50k+. I also have to convince her on the pickle fork. She hates the look. |

| anw7405, I fully concur. I would buy an A20 if you have a length restriction on your lake or need a smaller boat to keep in your garage. Otherwise, the A22 all the way. I LOVE mine. You should totally be able to pick up a '10 or '11 A22 wiht the small motor for 45k. |

Another vote for the A22, we love ours, and our usage is pretty close to the OP's usage. My brother has skied behind it a few times, and with the ballast empty at ski speeds he tells me that the wake is definately acceptable. Granted it's not totally flat like the Response, but I am sure it will be fine for non-competitive use.
We had the same reaction to the pickle fork, but after owning ours for two years, it definately has grown on us. It really gives the boat a lot more room in the bow. |
