I knew it would happen sooner or later but this weekend. Oli and Harley both landed 1080s wake 2 wake. I am not a huge fan of the 1080 and would rather watch Vandall spin than anyone else. However pretty brave to throw down a 1080 in your wake 2 wake run.
do you think we will see more of these in comps? I have not seen the new Nautique but I do not think that the Nautique was the reason we saw a 1080 for the firt time wake 2 wake.

I thought it wasn't during the regular comp portion, but some expression session? Kind of like a double up competition.

This. It was after the double-up competition. Nautique staged this expression session so that they could say, "wow, look, our new wake is so amazing that riders are already making history in its first outing." It's pure bovine excrement, of course, but a brilliant marketing strategy nonetheless. MasterCraft should've done this on the pro tour years ago.
Harley lands those every set, but I was super stoked for Oli.
I, for one, would like to see riders do wake-to-wake 10s in their contest runs, but I don't think we'll see that for quite awhile. Some riders have the ability to do them, but it's simply not necessary. Consistency and playing it safe are the name of the game.
I was a little disappointed to see that the finals runs thrown down at Wake Games were exactly the same as what the riders were doing last year, but then a rider talked some sense into me by reminding me that there's no reason to take unnecessary risks in a situation like that where there's no room for error.
Phil and Harley will only do what's necessary to beat each other, and right now, that doesn't include 1080s. At least Bob is keeping it fresh with his awesome rewind tricks. Props to the judges for scoring those high!

You should've seen his earlier run. He did the biggest tantrum to blind I've ever seen. Way out into the flats. He couldn't ride away from it, but it was just jaw-dropping. Definitely one of the highlights of the day!

Truth. I would much rather watch style in a competition than a fugly haphazard spin. Nothing against the trick or the guys landing it, but style trumps an extra spin every time.
