I hate St. Patrick's day. It is the worst holiday ever.

cameraboy, I hope by worst you mean best...what a fantastic day. A holiday designed to bring in spring/warm weather and get hammered. Noone has any idea what it is actually for, and noone cares! Its not like Christmas..."Well the TRUE meaning of Christmas is to ______." Nope. Noone cares at all, just get hammered and blast Dropkick Murphys. Awesome.

And Flogging Molly...and...and...

Had a great day with friends. Made corned beef and cabbage, herbed potatoes, soda bread and drank some guiness.

Very nice. We went to the parade then had a crawfish boil cajun style.

Helped a buddy host a knock down dragout party in Downtown. Blew 2 kegs a case of liquor in 4 hours. Not bad.

Did absolutely nothing. Grabbed a Pizza from Nugget and drank a few of Oregons finest Porters. Had a fun night with my son.

I wore green on Friday, but only to deflect the usual questions I get about not wearing green on St Pats. I'm tired of answering with "I don't wear green cuz I'm not f***** Irish!"

Yeah, I get it, I look like I could be Irish. But I ain't so go away! I'm a beaner! Laughing

Went to Heavenly on Saturday which got a foot of powder overnight. Made for an awesome day up until the last run of the day when I decided that Gunbarrel would be the best way down to the parking lot. Doh. Then went to Reno to check out a friend's new place and hit the casinos.

As an Irishman on my mother's side, I hate it.

Famine, genocide, the intentional attempt to destroy Irish culture by the English, civil war, mass immigration to a very unfriendly US, and I could go on for pages listing the things Irish immigrants to the US have done for this country. They survived all of it and Irish culture is alive and well.

But on the "Irish" holiday, we just reinforce the stereotypes that greeted the Irish when they showed up, and being Irish becomes synonymous with wearing a very tacky green shirt, a stupid green derby and some beads, getting piss drunk and acting like an @ss in public.

I am Irish, so I can say that no other group is stupid enough to reinforce their own negative stereotypes.

Ok, yearly anti-St.Patrick's day rant over.

Haha, at least your passionate against it. I know plenty of Irish people, but they are not truely offended. They understand that sterotypes will be what they are and to just relax and have fun.

Eh, I'm not so much passionate as annoyed.

I'm not really OFFENDED, just rolling my eyes every time some moron with a "kiss me, I'm irish" button and a green tophat on gets in my face babbling something incoherent before pissing in the street.

Do any of you know that the English intentionally tried to starve the Irish to death to reduce their population? SEVERAL times?

probably not. But you know about leprauchans and green beer... FFS....

Ok, now I'm REALLY done.

heh.

There actually is historical significance to St. Patrick's Day - and it's an official holiday in Ireland (as in, they get the day off work). However, we use it as an excuse to go out and get drunk... which is precisely what I did. I don't drink much anymore either, so it was awesome Smile

The English were terrible to both the Irish and the Scottish.

No doubt. Dude probably needed a case of Gatorade and a bucket of Menudo just to get out of bed this morning! Laughing

Next thing you know he's going to say that Cinco de Mayo is just the celebration of the victory of some small battle that is only meaningful in the one state of Mexico and the liquor companies have conspired to co-opt the event to increase spring alcohol sales... That or a taco street vendor conglomerate needed to increase carnitas sales.

People like to celebrate and if college is any indication LOVE theme parties. It's a fun care-free holiday with a theme. Go with it. We can remember the plight of the Irish on bloody sunday which just had it's 40th anniversary.

haha yeeah. We had quite a day. Dallas St Pattys day parade is one of the best events in town all year. I've never had a bad time. It's the one time every year cops have to get off their high horses and let people act like drunken fools in Dallas city streets, a la Vegas or Bourbon street. That is other than the cops actually riding high horses and arresting people for acting too much like drunken fools. I wanted to see them try to haul off these drunks on their Clydesdales.

My friend has a short school bus, and is also really short so he's affectionately known as "Short Bus." Short Bus also has a Delorien which was towed behind in a trailer along with 30 of our closest friends. It was a 1980s schit show at 10am in the morning.

I made my contribution by shaving my rainforest of a chest except for an over-sized, overgrown bow-tie shaped patch which was painted green in honor of CB's St Patrick.

STPHNSN23, haha yeah, the prize was a bowtie shaped sunburn line and a weeks worth of stubble itching.

wakechick13, that's crazy. That second photo was probably taken there. Small world when there's 100 floats and 10s of thousands of people!

JV, we arranged for a guy who works vallet to drive for us. Dude had a blast too though and got quite a tip from our drunk asses.

They don't mess around with the drinking though. I take the dart rail every year. They do no refusal breathalyzers and setup check-points.
