I'm still in highschool but I get what Baltfrog is saying and think it makes sense. The larger companies can produce the same quality product with the same materials for less, sell it for less, and still make money, but potentially gain control of the market. Niche market or not, making money is making money.
Oh and I would love to have Nike6.0's dual axle stationwagon they had for their wakeskating team _________________ Dale - "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade -- THEN find someone who's life handed them vodka and throw one helluva party" |

I see what you're saying baltfrog. I think if they did it in the way you're stating it *could* work out. The main difference being you're assuming they're going to get some people that know what they're doing because then they aren't going to create useless garbage.
If it happened and the gear was quality, I wouldn't complain. Everybody likes lower prices. My only fear would be inferior gear and inferior warranties. The one main benefit you get with these leading niche companies is what I've stated before. They have pride in their gear and don't want to lose your business. If their gear fails, in my experience they straight up replace it.
I also now understand what funky was saying about flex. I would LOVE the ability to have different levels of flex but to be honest slingshot already kinda does that. Their normal lines is flexier than their higher grade line. But I totally agree with you, I would rather have a choice as to how flexy I want it. I would be in heaven if a company did that. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

We definitely see eye to eye then sir on the big company little company issue, and lets all start that flex company! For the people by the people right? I think we can borrow inspiration from longboard decks and by layering different plys of different types of wood in different areas. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

| Baltfrog you start the company I will gladly give you idea's until your ears bleed. I can no longer afford the risk of starting companies etc.... But love that you guys aspire to do those things. |

I wonder if instead of starting a new company if we could lobby to slingshot to bring back more flex. Their boards have been getting stiffer as the years progress. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

We are starting next week. 15 celcius / 59 farenheit.
If we are lucky it gets 30 celcius / 86 farenheit in the summertime, so it's not that bad as you would think |

It's still pretty cold, i wouldn't say used to, but you know what to expect when you jump in.
We ride from march till end of june in wetsuits, maybe a shorty if we're lucky. From july to maybe september it's ok to just go in shorts and comp, however i have friends who always ride in a lycra. Then from end of september till begin november (when the season on the like we ride ends) it's back to wetsuits.
New tricks are learend from june till september |

| I am from northeast OH and we usually start riding at the end of may/early june with my crew. I just relocated to upstate SC and am hoping to get an earlier start this year. Unfortunately, both my friends with boats are still in OH. So I am trying to find people down here to ride with. I posted in the find a pull section so hopefully I find some riders in my area. |

| When out the day before yesterday, wore a wet suit but it wasn't that bad. I think the water temp was 59 F and the air is around 60's. Can't wait till it gets warmer though, so its more comfortable out. |

I doubt I'll ride this season. Hell I don't even know where my board is at this moment.
Might look into buying a surf board this year or a SUP |

wakechick13, Have you been out yet? I think if you put the same amount of time and effort into your riding as you have to wakeboarder.com, you will be a pro by the end of the summer . |

Haha, no, but I like your enthusiasm and curiosity. If every new rider took a little time to learn from the vets like you're doing, the future of our sport would be much brighter! _________________ rally to the wake |

I know that when I get out on the water, that I will be much better then I ended last season. I have learned so much from this forum and watching vids, even inspired me to try to do some switch longboarding. This is actually one of the main reasons I bought my longboard. I learned to push and ride switch, but I'm not very good at it and I don't work on it nearly as often as I should. Still, I think it's really helping! _________________ rally to the wake |

Haylee, yes. Heeb the pushing is the hardest part. I need a better place to practice like a big parking lot, its tough living in the city. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

Ya, the key for me was to keep pushing with the same foot. I normally ride left foot forward and push with my left (front) foot. I'm told it's called bongo pushing.
When I ride switch, I still push with my left foot, which is now my back foot. I have tried pushing with my right foot, but it was scary as hell! _________________ rally to the wake |

i'll always heard it called mongo pushing but who knows. regular is riding your normal way and switch is riding the opposite of your normal way, so if you like have your left foot forward switch is riding with your right foot forward. _________________ Don't rush to judge me, no matter how fast you won't be the first one. |

What ever foot you normally ride with forward is considered regular for you.
Switch is the opposite foot forward for you.
Regular stance is left foot forward.
Goofy stance is right foot forward.
Frontside means turning toward the boat first.
Another way to describe these spins are spinning with the way your moving.
Backside means turning away from the boat.
This would be spinning away from the way your moving.
Ex..
I am left foot forward. regular stance.
If I do a 180 turning in toward the boat first. That is a regular frontside 180 and I would be landing in my switch position. If I continued on and did another 180 that would be a switch 180 landing regular.
That is a basis of all the confusing stuff in boarding. |
