So we need to replace our door buzzer system. Was thinking what we could do to upgrade it. I was thinking what if we installed a camera that was linked to the door bell. When a button is pressed the camera begins feeding a stream to that particular units button. The twist is that the device has wifi and using google voice or something or other kicks a call to that particular units owner or an app rings as well as shows an image of the person pressing the button. Obviously then the unit owner can answer or opt to just press a button on their smartphone to let them in. Anything like this exist for a reasonable price and if not how much is entailed to do this?

I've seen TV commercials for some sort of app like this, but I can't remember what it was.

This could defintely be done. I'm taking a class this semester that deals with arduino and we're doing things like this. For a group project we are working on a home monitoring system. We're starting with a snail mailbox that emails/texts you when you have mail and possibly doing a door lock you can control with a smartphone.

I wish I had studied programming and electronics. This stuff interests me and always has but I just never pursued it. I'm currently developing a new machine for my industry and am pretty much the lead on defining the industry standards but wish I was actually the one writing the controller and engineering the mechanics. Oh well I still get to do some pretty cool stuff.

I've had the arduinos for a couple months and love it. I should have my sawmill partially automated in a few weeks.

I would also like to link to a camera/security system such as what you are talking about. Hopefully someone has or comes up with the droid programming for it.
