Sounds like your problem isn't with the GOVERNMENT, but with the security measures in general. If a private firm was handling security with the same parameters, they would be doing the same thing. Why are they just targeting single women? If they're just wanting to see good looking women semi-nude, why not just target all attractive women? _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

You do not hear about these improprieties in foreign countries with privatized airport security. In fact, in many ways the privatized security is more effective, professional, and discrete. If not private at least professional military or law enforcement that have a higher ethical standard and better training. Theses TSA characters are the same people who work at DMV IMO. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

Correlation is not causation.
Sounds like your problem is with the TSA and their training/hiring, not the government.
I don't expect that you would attract the best talent with what they pay TSA agents. I don't know what they are paid though, but I imagine it is not that much and that it is not hard to get hired. Can anyone show different? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

No, the TSA is a government agency.
Here's their pay scale:
Pay Band Minimum Maximum
A $17,083 $24,977
B $19,570 $28,546
C $22,167 $33,303
D $25,518 $38,277
E $29,302 $44,007
F $33,627 $50,494
G $39,358 $60,982
H $48,007 $74,390
I $58,495 $90,717
J $71,364 $110,612
K $85,311 $132,237
L $101,962 $155,500
M $120,236 $155,500
I don't know which "pay band" airport screening people fall into.
But again, I will bring up the FDA and CDC.
Being a gov't agency does not automatically mean you are a bunch of incompetent baboons.
Though it does seem the case with some of the TSA. And DMV. And both houses of congress. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

cameraboy, it's certainly with this bureaucracy and their practices which are governmental. I would prefer we station active duty military in the airports and bomb sniffing dogs which are more effective and discrete than the machines.
The pay (17K-155K including a modifier for region) still comes with the amazing government benefits package: health insurance, sick leave, paid vacation, retiree health benefits, a 401K, recruitment bonuses, incentive bonuses, relocation bonuses, interagency transfers, employee development programs and more. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I think you are right.
I also would prefer we adopt the Israeli system of questioning each passenger while they are in line, done by highly trained and paid professionals. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

We are on the same page. I can't help but feel like this mass of red sweater vests are incompetent and hate their lives, therefore disregard my life and that I have inconvenienced them by choosing to fly rather than take a train. That and with my overly complex eastern euro name I tend to get randomly screened a lot. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

Just FYI, not every single airport in the U.S. is using government employees for airport security. There are some international airports in which TSA bids out the security to private companies who have a contract with TSA but operate independently. So not every "TSA agent" (as they are perceived to be by all of us) is actually a government employee.
The Kansas City International Airport is one of these. I know a handful of people who work for First Line Security here, which is the private company that has the contract with TSA. Outside of the regulations they have to comply with, they are run like a regular company and have their own way of operating. BTW, they are AWFUL to work for, so they probably wish they were govt employees. _________________

HAHAHAHA
I flew 36 times in 3 years and was never screened a single time.
That was very troubling to me. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

finkle, haha no, just read this paragraph
| Quote: | | It's important to note that if you're traveling and you're randomly or non-randomly selected to go through the body scanner, you're completely within your rights to refuse the scan. If you refuse, you'll receive something that walks the line between a pat-down and a grope from a female agent. So, would you rather run the risk that some dude in another room with his hands in his pants is analyzing your body for boner threats or allow a female stranger to boredly caress your bra's underwire? The choice is yours in this great land of freedom and possibility. |

I also brought a small push dagger onto some of these flights in my carry on. Accidentally. But it was never confiscated.
But they did once take an allen key away from me. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

Or that they will serve you an aluminum can on any flight. Tear an aluminum can in half and you have a hand full of razor blades.
But a pocket knife with a dull 2.5 inch blade and a can opener..... Sound the alarms. _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian? |

I don't think they were worried about you digging your way in to the cockpit.
Unless your name is Bugs Bunny. But then you would make a wrong turn at Albuquerque and you'd end up in the lav anyhow.
CB - Nor*Cal is very ethnic. He 6'3" and whiter than my arse. Definitely should be chosen for "additional" screening. _________________

I'm actually taking a aviation security class this semester. They list the pay range for screeners at $23,600-$35,400. Pretty low for the responsibility they have, but then again given what they really do it's not too bad I guess. |

That MIGHT be why you end up with some of them being clowns that didn't want to, or couldn't, get a better paying job. Which doesn't matter TOO much, as they are mainly there to make you feel good. I don't think they really DO much, and they would be much better replaced with the same system the Israelis use. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

Agreed.
Did you know that you can rent a 747 as a private charter? Did you know that if you do that you would not have to pass through any kind of security check point to board your flight? So really the point of letting TSA guys check out naked chicks is to make the flying public feel safer, because in the end if the bad guys want to hijack a plane again it would be very easy for them to do so. We are really relying on our intelligence to stop any threat before it happens. |

Yes, I agree. I think that MOST of our "homeland security" nonsense does little more than make people feel alternatively better, and then less safe when votes are needed. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |
