Have a person coming this weekend to buy my boat, and he wanted me to perform a compression test on the engine, which has 590 hours on it. The engine is the indmar 350 carb. The numbers I got were 170, 165, 165, 165, 170, 170, 165, 170 counter clockwise starting on the right side of the motor looking from the drivers seat. Test was performed at running temp with the plugs out. I am seeing conflicting numbers online, but it seems these are normal, and are all within <10% of each other. Just making sure the numbers seem good to you guys as well.
Thanks _________________ 2007 Mobius LSV |

| No problem with those numbers. Did you allow three cycles for each cylinder? |

Yeah 3 full cycles each, I also forgot to mention the throttle was wide open, and the battery was fully charged. A guy on another forum mentioned the batter could have started to drain a bit since it was not charging during the test, causing the slight difference every now and then in each cylinder. _________________ 2007 Mobius LSV |

Those numbers are perfect. If the guy doesn't recognize that then he is wasting your time in even asking for a compression test. _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

looks good to me. most tests are suposed to be on a warm engine. on a cold engine those are fantastic. _________________ trying to find a $5-7K usable saltare if anyone knows of one. |

| How easy is it for me to do myself. I am thinking of looking at an '85 SN2001 this weekend. I would difinately lake test it, turn it off to heat soak and then restart a few times but I also wanted to try and get a compression test. Is there an easy kit you can borrow from discount auto to do it or instructions on line for the SN2001? I know the stringers are the other main concern with these but it seems like a great boat. Fingers crossed. |

You will need to buy the guage for the compression test, which I got at autozone a few years back. Here is a video of someone doing a compression test on a malibu response...notice the guage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFDbd22dzM). Just get the engine to operating temp, then shut it down and unhook the power to the injectors. Next pull the spark plugs, and start the test. The guage has a hose that has a threaded fitting on one end that screws in to the spark plug hole....throttle needs to be wide open, crank and allow for 4 revolutions. This only took me ~45 minutes start to finish with numb fingers dropping tools everywhere _________________ 2007 Mobius LSV |
