Saw this movie last night...really good! Great story and a great reminder about being a father to our sons and daughters. I would encourage everyone to check it out. Even if your aren't "religious" there are some great moments to remind us all how we can do the best for our kids and family, which does so much to contribute to a very positive society we all benefit from.

Was excited when I read it as: "Cougars, the movie".

Was so disappointed by what it was.

Yeah, because I can't possibly be a good father without the requisite belief in god. My poor, poor children. Rolling Eyes

I'm sure there are quite a few that would argue you are "abusing" them by not bringing them up *insert religion here*. Shocked

I think there were a lot of good ideas in the movie that had nothing to do with specific beliefs. That was one of the aspects of the movie I liked the most.

Maybe I missed something but can you please point out where anyone said you can't be a good father without the prerequisite belief in God...

if I can lighten up in my old age so can you Francis.... Laughing

He thinks the movie is establishing that requisite if I'm understanding him correctly.

I watched the movie and it was decent. It was a little over the top but I sure didn't take away from it that you have to believe in God to be a good parent..

It is definitely a movie with a Christian based theme, but yeah I agree. It is a great movie about family values and has some really good stories within. I love the scene with the black guy and bis daughter and the agreement he made with her. That made me think of a couple friends of mine that have daughter.

Of course you didn't - because you believe in god. Laughing

I find the insinuation offensive that I am less than courageous or in some way a failure as a father because I'm not raising my children in a "god-honoring way."

This is straight from Okie's link:

"When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to their children?

Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That's courageous."

I understand the two parts you highlighted with the word God in them as being religious, but why did you highlight the word faith? Do you consider faith to be exclusive to religion?

Each to their own on preferences. If you don't want to watch a movie because it is "christian" or has a focus on men who believe in and lean on God, that's you're choice and nobody should give you problems with that, IMO. I think most people would agree there's nothing wrong with that opinion and choice.

As a side note...I find it offensive that the only way I can be viewed as having family values by some folks is if I accept something that doesn't agree with what I believe in or seems unnatural.

I'm going to step out on a limb and say I don't think you've watched the movie. I will be the first to admit it's a little over the top at points..With that said the title courageous has everything to do with the willingness to face you failures as a father and much less to do we being a courageous father because you believe in God...

You will not like the movie because it does have a strong "God" theme but that doesn't mean that it isn't a good movie for fathers to watch. One part of the movie was a gut punch to me because I'm guilty of exactly the same thing one of the characters is guilty of...and it has nothing to do with God.

I was re-watching a few scenes and I gotta say the scene with the younger man talking about his daughter who has hasn't been involved with was a good one. It is a good reminder to young men about taking responsibility as a man, no matter the situation.

The dad that wouldn't dance with his daughter...I work 70 to 80 hours a week and sometimes I am so tired or busy that I miss out spending the time I should with her..I read am article from a hospice nurse a while back. She said the number one regret was spending a great amount of time work and not your family.

There were other parts as well but I watched it on opening night which was multiple months ago.

Yea got me too and that is the specific point I was talking about in the movie...Outside his truck...Felt like a goof sitting there choked up.

I thought the part where the Mexican guy was in the back of the cop car was funny as crap too..Almost had me in the floor.

In the end a good movie for any family guy even if you arent religious (in my opinion).

Yeah, the gang leader scene...that was hilarious. Snake eyes or snake bites...something like that, was the name.

I just watched the movie. I loved it!! It was very sad, but the overall message was extremely good! I would definatly recommend it to anyone. I know that I will never get to fully understand the feelings of a father, but coming from a divorced family I am extremely grateful to have a father that truly loves my siblings and I and constantly tries his best to show us that love.
