In my bathroom, sitting side by side I have my gel eye drops and something called New Skin Scar Therapy - it's a topical gel to help reduce the look of scars. They're both in a small white tube.

So this morning, I stupidly picked up a tube thinking it was my eye drops and put it in my right eye, which is when I realized I had picked up the wrong tube! I immediately grabbed some toilet paper and did my best to wipe out all the gel, then flushed it with water from the tap for a few minutes. After that I squirted a bunch of regular liquid eye drops into it in the hopes that I can flush out any of the scar-removal gel that might be left.

The back of the tube says to "avoid contact with the eyes", but doesn't say what to do if contact is made. I tried looking them up online and can't find any information on what to do or who to contact...

My eye itself looks relatively ok, my vision is fine... it's slightly bloodshot and is very faintly throbbing... but that could be from using the toilet paper to get the gel out initially.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I should do or did I pretty much do the right thing? If anything bad were going to happen to my eye it should have happened by now right? This was 9 hours ago now...

I'm going to look at the tube again tonight when I get home to see if there's any contact info for them on it...

Needless to say, I now will be storing the scar-removal gel under the sink in the bathroom... far away from my gel-drops!

I asked my wife, she said flush with H2O for 5 minutes and you'll be fine (she is a doc, and has used the scar gel). And if you are really concered there should be an 800 number on the bottle that you can call and ask questions.

If pain or swelling persists see your doctor.

Go to an eye doctor.
If you are stubborn then look up the MSDS. Material safety data sheet on the company's website it will tell you what to do.

Broccoli B, thanks... I think it was about 5 min that I flushed it this morning so hopefully she's right!

vette74, have so far been unable to find a company website, but will check again when I get home.

Why didn't you go into an ER or go to see your doctor?

ont, have you ever called Telehealth? It's rediculous - I called once before because a pill my dr. made me take had weird side effects and the woman essentially thought I was dying. I was just calling to find out if the side effects of that particular pill was normal or if I should be worried. In the end, I went to the pharmacy and they said it was normal - whereas Telehealth told me to go to the ER immediately.

Didn't go to the ER because I thought it was ok initially but the more I thought about it during the day, the more worried I got. My husband says my eye looks perfectly fine though, and I finally found their website and have sent them an email (there's no phone number on it!) - they, of course, had no more info on their site other than "avoid contact with eyes".

**edit: I just remembered my husband's cousin is a nurse! So I'll call her to see what she thinks Smile

Flushing your eye with water is the general treatment for these things, so you did fine.

Out of curiosity, will you list the active and inactive ingredients?

Well, you can see well enough to ask a group of people who's common interest is wakeboarding....

Are you, by any chance, a member of any eye doctor forums? That would come in handy right now.

There's no active ingredient? Dimethicone is just the polymer matrix that makes up the cream. If that's really all there is in it, then you can save your money and just use regular hand lotion.

It worked just fine on a scar I used to have just below my eyebrow though. Maybe there's more in it but it's just not written on the tube.. who knows.

And yes, I know wb.com shouldn't be my first source for treatment. I was more just sharing my stupidity with everyone, not exactly looking for medical advice. I had tried looking for information myself and left messages for people I knew in the medical field. If I had been experiencing actual issues with my eye I would have taken myself to the ER, no questions asked.

Hey guys, opened my email this morning to some nice new material from our friend Muckmeister and accidentally got some jizz in my eye. Flushed it with water so far and there's a lot of redness, but I can still see kind of okay. Should I go to the ER you think or just wait it out???

I'm glad you got this worked out. I was ready to tell you to cut your eyeball so that it would scar and then the gel would use itself up trying to heal the scar. Feel free to save that idea for next time. Idea
