I've been looking to upgrade to the 2012 Hyperlite Marek Bio, any reviews or opinions on the board? Quality, learning curve, etc? Also, I really like the CWB torq bindings and have some from a few years back. Any reviews or opinions on the new 2012's? I think it would be an awesome and unique set up. Thanks

| Thanks for the help. Anybody else have any reviews or opinions? I know the 2012 gear is new and people may not have ridden it yet, so any comments on the 2011 Marek bio, and 2011 CWB torq's?

wakesetter1989, That is a pretty awful combination I'm afraid. The Torq's are a very entry level binding, where as the Marek is a super high end board that is not forgiving to beginners.
What kind of level of riding are you at? And are you boat or cable?

| Thanks for the advice Brit Rider. I am an intermediate rider and I ride behind a boat, Wakesetter VLX. I am a big fan of the open-toed bindings and like the torq's. Do you have any other recommendations for open- toed that wouldnt be "entry level bindings"? And just out of curiosity, what is the problem with the torq's? Thanks for the help.

I feel like you chose this combination mostly because the colors match.
The back hinge on the Torqs is a very poor design. They're crappy entry-level bindings that are based on a very outdated design premise. As a result, they're less comfortable and less supportive than most modern, pro-model bindings.
Essentially, the Torqs squeeze your feet between two halves, just like almost all early wakeboard bindings did (see the pic at the bottom-2005 isn't EARLY, but you know what I mean). Binding technology has come a long way since then, so that modern bindings now cradle your foot from all directions and provide 360 degree support and hold that is evenly and comfortably distributed across your entire foot and ankle. They give you a much better connection to your board and allow you to control your edges much more precisely, utilizing far more contact surface area on your foot to push against the inside of the boots and move the board.
If you want open-toe bindings, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, there are far better options. Check out Liquid Force's B1s or Ultras, Ronix's Kai OTs, or the new Slingshot Verdicts.

Love mine. Bought the Nova core last year. First test run on it I could not believe how much better the pop was coming off riding a 7 year old board. It was a dramatic step up from my Hyperlite Premier. My riding seemed to immediately start progressing a little bit quicker. Could have just been timing I don't know but I really like the board.

| Thanks slidin out, thats good to hear, im stoked to try it. Hebrew Hammer, thanks for the advice. No i didnt just pick it for the color choice, although it does look tight, its cause thats what ive been riding in the past. Easy boot for everyone on the boat to use. My only concern with going with something like the BOB is the price. I can get a steal on the marek and the boots would be just as much if not more than the board. I wanted to stay under 250, so i was looking at the hyperlite focus, i realize the remixes are beginners too, guess thats a bad thing in your book. Thanks for the help.

Fair enough. In that case, I'd advise you to get something a little older. 2010 and 2011 Witnesses are awesome and very cheap.

| Ive got the 2010 OT Kai's and absolutely love them. Very comfortable and also supportive. You cant go wrong though with any of the bindings that TheHebrewHammer pointed out.

Sadly, no, but they're a very similar design to some of the other LF bindings I mentioned. They're based on a closed-toe foot structure, and I imagine they'd be really comfortable and supportive. They look nice to me!
