| Hey I was wondering if anybody has a Pro-tec Ace or Pro-tec two face helmet? I was just hoping somebody could give me some advice on which one to choose. I've heard lots of good things about the two face but I was hoping for some opinions on the Ace too. If you could just tell me what you like/ dislike about them and what color you guys like the helmet in that be great. Thanks. |

I have the 2 face. Its a winner. Not a complaint. Great protection, stays on well and looks good too. _________________ 2010 Watson Hybrid

wakechick13, It's debated as to whether a helmet helps significantly in a water only crash. They definitely are a good idea for rails/ramps or any time when your head could come in contact with something hard.
Basically when you hit the water, your head is going from very fast to pretty much stopped in a VERY short distance while your brain keeps going and can bump the inside of your skull (how concussions happen). Although helmets are padded, they also add surface area to your head meaning that your head might be stopping faster, thus completely negating the thin layer of padding.
In short, it might help and it might not in a water-only crash.
I may be able to chat with some people about it online though, because I'm curious to see if we can settle this once and for all. (Off to a physics/medical forum!). We really need to have a wakeboarding Mythbusters... |

GnarShredd, so the helmet basically adds surface ares and cushin to prevent concussions...and yeah i would defininately consider a helmet for ramp jumps! But i am not even close to being that good yet!!
If you find out anything let me know....and yeah a Wakeboarding Mythbusters would be awesome! |

The added surface area, in theory, makes your head stop faster when it hits the water. Meaning that the impact may be worse than if you didn't have the helmet on (not much worse though).
The padding is what likely would be helping most however it's usually a pretty thin layer and might only be helping minimally in a situation like hitting the water. |

| I wear a helmet protec - I get both sides of the helmet issues - one thing that hasn't been mentioned before are the ear flaps - pretty certain they have saved my eardrums a time or two |
