Lame or cool? Seems like it would be possible to do everything you can do wakeboarding. Anyone ever try it?

Eventually I'm going to try this, but honestly I'm a little afraid of a gust of wind taking me for a ride.

No worries. Just make sure you get some lessons and you'll be fine. Kites now are much safer than a few years ago.

something fishy here... You joined to post a bunch of Eric Rienstra videos in the kiteboard forum, yet a year later you post this?

Are you Eric Rienstra, or just crushin on him and posting a ton of his videos?

Haha wouldn't call it a crush but he is a friend of mine and the only person I know that kites. Here's some more videos from some other people if you are sick of watching him: http://www.youtube.com/user/tomcourt4?feature=mhee

I guess I should have put these Arrow Arrow I was just messing with you. The question seemed strange for somebody that already is familiar with kiteboarding and this site.

Didn't mean to sound like I didn't know what kiteboarding was, I was more trying to get a general idea of what wakeboarders think of it.

Slacker, You can do mostly everything, but a lot of it's going to be in a different way, the pop from kiting is so different from that of wakeboarding, although cable is REALLY similar for wake-style tricks. You can't even compare the two IMO.

Also, there's really no wake to speak of unless you're talking about using waves to get air instead of popping off of flat. In any case, I don't think we'll be seeing spins like 900's or more unless the rider uses a kicker or equipment tech advances a bit more. I imagine there's a TON of bar pressure if you're spinning off of a wave vs. a kicker or wake that will be super hard to overcome once you get to the last handle pass.

I agree they are different in their execution. And I haven't seen a kiter hit 3 passes. But they are close.

That 9 off of the wave was pretty legit. The kiteloop one, meh. Impressive, but not wakestyle, too much lift from the kite. But that's just it, it's going to be REALLY difficult to pop properly wakestyle and do something like a 900 without relying on a kiteloop to get you there, and you can't fault kiting for that, it's just a potential inherent limitation.

Like I said, they're different sports with completely different styles. You can not compare the two unless you're comparing cable riding to kiting IMO.

The only thing you can do on a kite that you can't on wakeboards is the dangly board-off tricks, but nobody wants to see those anyway. Laughing

What do you mean "pop properly wakestyle?" Behind a boat you are hitting a wake which is pretty much the same as a wave. Are you saying someone has done an air 900 popping off the flats behind a boat? Davies hit a 717 on the cable which is close but harder because like you said no kiteloop to give you extra lift.

My point is that I think kiting has the potential to mimic every wake and cable trick once someone reaches a high enough level. Kiters hit BS 315s without a kiteloop so someone is bound to hit a 717 and 719 (don't know if I am naming them correctly) eventually.

Argh, maybe I should rephrase a bit.

Yes, all tricks can probably be done but just done differently. They're both boardsports, tricks overlap, that's how they work.

My main point is that they're different sports with different challenges and different styles; so why bother comparing the two? I do both and ride differently for each.

Has anyone done any osmosis spins on a kite? THAT might be a bit difficult...
