ive been working on these for two years. i just cant get them. finally had some family in the boat this weekend so i got some footage to try to get some help. i did 5 attempts each day.
any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. spending 2 seasons on a 180 seems rediculous and im starting to give up
You're super close, that second attempt just looks like you gave up. Are you trying to clear the wakes or just trying to do a 1-wake jump to get the motion down? I say just go for it, they look pretty good I think and worth giving a wake to wake attempt.
Also, have you practiced the landing by doing them inside-out? If not I'd say do this a few times before you go the whole way just so you get comfortable with the landing.
no im just trying them 1 wake.
mostly because i prefer to ride at 21.5, but can only clear TS at 22.5 cause the moomba has a wide wake.
your actually the second person that gave both of those bit of advice. w2w and inside out practice.
for my HS BS i have been practicing IO but to blind not with the pass. my TS ollie and IO are craptastic and non existant really. so TS IO would be pretty tough for me.
thanks for taking the time to watch and help. really means alot. ive been working on this for so long. i really want to get it. any advice is appreciated! _________________
from some attempts it looked almost like you're trying to land blind then switch handle, which i don't think is on purpose. i'm not very good with these myself, i can land about 6-7 out of ten, wake to wake. i'll try to break into pointers, see if any of these make sense to you.
1. you seem to be using the techniques employed for landing blind (i.e. looking to the back at the horizon) and also leaning slightly toeside and keeping the handle out. i'm guessing you've had some painful heelside catches before so you're compensating for that. due to the fact when you rotate you're looking at the rear with your head, your rotation stops at under 180 degrees, and you have all sorts of weird tension direction to deal with. you're under rotating, which brings me to the next point...
2. board direction. imagine when you're going in a straight line, your board points at 12 oclock, when you edge in TS for 1wBS180, the board's at around 2óclock -> this means when you rotate you want to land with the nose at 8 oclock, instead of the current 6ish oclock. when you can rotate to that angle, you'll be able to land with your body starting to face the boat, and land on HS. being able to land on HS means you can see what's in front of you directly, plus you can lean back and use line tension to save sketchy landings. look at your closest attempt, #2. that's the approximate ideal direction you want to land at. i had the same exact issues trying to get to this, two things that helped me with this were:
3. head direction. say the boat's going north. instead of jumping and looking SOUTH away from the boat, turn more and LOOK WEST for the horizon. when your head turns, your body and the board follows. this'll give a bit more rotation speed and helps solve the problem of landing with your body slightly twisted in the blind position. but more importantly..
4. line tension. you see that your handle's got further away as you jump, and when you get tension it's pulling from the back of your right hip. you want to keep the handle closer to you mid-air, and bring (almost force) it round. as you edge into the wake, it's pulling at the front of the left hip. when you pop up, you want to bring it round the backside, change hand and bring it all the way round to the front of the right hip, not the rear. when it's in front, you'll land with body facing the boat. land heel side and ride away into the sunset. roll credits and massive applause.
Secondly, either shorten the line and take it w2w, or lengthen and do it 1 wake, OR do it inside out as suggested. Either way - YOUVE GOT THIS, don't give up or get frustrated. backsides are technical and they are tough to learn for a reason. It's not "just" a 180. It's a backside 180. Poll the boarders here and find out how many can do them.
The falling out the rear is happening like the previous poster but it's just because you're a little gunshy. After you land you're first one you'll feel more confident and won't be tipped back so much. You just don't want to catch an edge and faceplant
Get out there and throw 10 a day. Warm up and throw them until you are a little sore. Then go out the next time and drill on them some more. When I'm learning a new trick i spend 2 minutes warming up and throw about 25 attempts at it each day. Persistence my man! _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before.
thanks for the encouragement.
i read the link. very nice. thanks for that. lots of good pointers, but it seems that they are refering to landing blind/wraped. im not ready for that yet. id like to learn it with the pass first. then move onto wraped blind.
to be honest im not gunshy of taking a back plant. its never happened or even close. i always go out the back. i wish i could rotate more upright. i dont know whats causeing that.
i only try 5 per set cause i dont want to engrave wrong muscle memory. if im not landing it i dont want to keep hammering it that way cause its obviusly wrong. now if your trying different things then yeah.
lol 2 years is persistance.
thanks for the tips! keep them coming! _________________

Yeah man you're superclose. The 2 things that I think are gonna make the biggest difference have already been said; either lengthen or shorten the rope. Probably first longer, then after you stick 'm consistently shorter. You now always hit the 2nd wake, just avoid that.
And the other thing is look more toward the boat when landing, just like ediotism said.
And yes +another one for inside out. Plus, you might want to try 'm as a surface trick first.
Good luck! _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica
I think inside out is the best bet also. that way you do not have the bounce from the second wake. _________________ Wakeskating Ronix Wakeboards Wakeboarding

I also agree that you are damned close. Biggest thing I noticed was that you start it with the handle way away from you with straight arms. Having the handle begin on the front hip would make for a much easier pass and help you maintain more consistent line tension from jump to land.
Post up some video once you nail it! _________________
