Not seeing the controversy here. Doesn't seem like a big deal one way or the other... _________________ rally to the wake |

| It's been tried and true in other sports, shouldn't be a big deal. At least it won't cause as much confusion as the whole insert spacing fiasco a few years ago... |

Yea, I don’t think LF can patent the metric system so it shouldn’t be an issue for other brands to follow suit...
TheHebrewHammer, the controversy is, for example, when you go to use Ronix bindings on a new LF board and the hardware doesnt work... or you have 2010 LF bindings you want to use on a 2012 LF board... Not an issue for me (yet) since I quit using LF stuff years ago. _________________ When life hands you a Jeffrey just rub the furry walls... |

I'd say such inconveniences are inevitable. A few years ago, 6" plates became the industry standard instead of 8" plates. The standard will probably continue change every few years and we just have to deal with it. _________________ rally to the wake |

there're good things to come from using M6 bolts as standard - the first obvious one that comes to mind is the ability to use bolts that take a 5mm allen key head, which avoids the problem of rounding out bolts/philips screw drivers, especially in the wet. it is so much easier to crank down the bolts properly with an allen key |

| Yeah this definitely shouldn't cause any problems. I don't usually ride LF so I am good either way |

plus, you can easily look for titanium bolts for the bling bling factor and 25 grams less weight |

Allen head hardware made out of whatever material you would like is READILY available in standard screw threads. _________________ When life hands you a Jeffrey just rub the furry walls... |

that's true, but i do have a massive concern about allen head bolts that use the imperial system - to do with rounding out.
a 6mm allen head is very slightly smaller than a 1/4'' allen head. A 1/4'' allen key cannot fit into a 6mm head, but a 6mm key can fit in a 1/4'' head and 'seems' to be the right size for turning. however as you put torque onto it the 6mm allen key has a big chance of having its six corners rounded off. worse is when the bolt head is rounded and you'd have to drill it off.
using metric bolts on the boards will stop any carefree wakeboarders with an inappropriate allen key from using it to tighten/round out anything, since the imperial size keys at each size range is slightly too big to fit in. but if it's the other way round, we can see countless people potentially using wrong allen keys. |
