So, since I need to replace our boards, thought I might explore some other options. Here's what we've been riding...

Me: LF Lyman with Vantage boots
Wife: LF Witness with Melissa boots
Kids: LF Nemesis with Domain boots

I was considering getting her a Melissa or Jett. My older son is up at around 100# and the Nemesis the boys have been riding is a 124. Thinking it might be time for a bigger board. I like the Lyman, but want to consider some others like the Shane or Watson.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

My wife got a ps3 last year (which is the same as the Luna, she just liked the ps3 graphics better) and after having been on it myself I think it was a great choice for her and maybe your wife. It's a slower board and seems to force you to be really deliberate. Just felt really solid. That said, you really have to get after it on that board to make it live up to it's potential, which I liked for her. She's pretty content just trying to jump a little and I hate seeing her get beat up riding, so something that kind of hamstrings her a tiny bit is a good choice imo.

For you, you might consider looking at the new Lyman from slingshot when it comes out. I think if you read up on it you'd probably like the idea and motivation behind it, and you were already riding a Lyman board anyways. If you want to stick with LF, I can't say enough good things about the Harley. If I had the money to pick up an extra "for fun" board this year, I'd grab the Slingshot Lyman or the Shane hybrid.

I'd probably look at the Harley 131 for the boys even.

what ever you do please try on some ronix bindings. i think you will fall in love.

also take a look at the ronix Domain board. largest surface area in there line up, and value priced as well.

b33nine, my wife definitely seemed to like riding the Witness. I think your ideas sound about right. My wife is mre interested in surface tricks, riding switch, etc than jumping. I might check out the Shane and Harley. I have a friend with a Watson that I'm going to try next time we all go out.

STANG KILLA SS, Will do. Can Ronix and LF stuff be mixed and matched?

I got a chance to ride a Watson this weekend...it was a good ride. It was a 138 which seems like maybe is a bit small for me. It definitely had a little different pop to it than the Lyman. It also wanted to bite and track more.

Funny you posted this today. Insurance contacted me this afternoon. The check is on its way. They valued everything pretty much at high retail, knocked off about 15% for depreciation, then subtracted my deductible. Once I purchase the items they will reimburse any cost that goes over the depreciated value for each item.

Okie, that sale ends today, if there is something in the right size, pull the trigger. I'm almost thinking about grabbing one of those Watsons for 245 just to check it out since I keep breaking Hyperlites Laughing

ericsolerI think I'm going to go anywhere between 130 and 134 for the boys.

JeffreyCH, I went ahead and got the wife the Jett by itself. She doesn't like the Wing bindings so I went board only. The board itself was $140. Great price.

I'm kind of thinking Shane or Watson for the boys and for me.

b33nine, tell me what it is that is so good about the Harley. Ride, pop, overall feel?

I'll tell you what's so good about the Harley. It's arguably the poppiest board out there, it's fast as hell (especially for a 3-stage board), and it's nice and loose in the middle for butter slides. I love it. It's really stiff, so if you're looking for to press out some flex fun or soften up your landings, look elsewhere, but that's the only drawback I can think of. And the stiffness really helps the pop.

Okie Boarder, It does have great pop, but in my experience it isn't that really jarring kind of pop just a nice smooth upwards pop. Super consistent, if you stay on edge through the wake you can be sure you're going to get some great air. Landings seem pretty good, definitely better than the Monarch I was riding last year and probably in line with the Shane I rode in 09. I don't really have any complaints about it yet, it definitely compares favorably with every board I've ridden in the last 4 years.

If you've got specific questions about it I can try to answer them but a lot of times it's kind of hard to articulate how it rides.

OK, that makes sense (both answers). How close in ride would the Watson or Shane be to the Harley? I like the idea of more pop and consistency. I liked the Lyman, but I enjoyed the little bit more kick the Watson gave that I rode last time out. Another thing I noticed about the Watson was it seemed harder to break it loose for slides. The one I rode had the center fins in so I would normally attribute it to that, but does the Watson tend to bite more? How about the Shane?

If I can get a close second on ride and pop, and be able to take advantage of good deals, I'd rather go that route. I'm thinking I may get the same board for myself and for the boys. I've basically narrowed it down to the Watson, Shane and Harley (no specific order). My oldest likes the Harley and the Shane (mostly because of looks). I just want to make sure both boards are a bit of an improvement in what we had, mostly in the pop department.

Well, made a few decisions.

Got my wife a 2009 Jett on a great closeout deal on evo.

Got the boys a 2010 Shane with Domain bindings, also on a good closeout deal on evo.

We're on the hunt for bindings for my wife and I'm still up in the air on what I want. I'm leaning towards the Watson classic and Vantage bindings, but I pretty much need to get 2011 if I want a decent package deal. My wife needs to try a friend's closed toed bindings to see if she would like that. Otherwise we need to seek out getting some 2008 or 2009 Melissa's. She had the 2008's and really loved them and she definitely wants the velcro.

So far my closed toe experience hasn't been pleasant. I like the open feel. I'll be riding closed toed one more time before I make my final decision.

The boys' new board arrived last weekend and we got a chance to use it last night. Our oldest took it for a ride to break it in. He definitely likes it and the look on his face after his first W2W pretty much let me know it is the right board for them. Without a whole lot of effort he got a really nice pop and had a smooth jump. He said he likes how it feels and handles. I was a little concerned about it being a little too big or heavy, but that doesn't seem to be the case. We'll be out again tonight and hopefully we can get some good air pics of him. Here's the set up.

I got a chance to ride the Watson a couple more times and I feel it will be a good board for me so I'm going ahead with that selection.

Rode the new set up last night. I love it! The pop from the Watson is distinctly different and much better for me.
