Please help - I am looking at a new tow boat and need advice. I'm a newbie so please go easy on me.

I am torn between a MB Sport F21 Tomcat and a Tige Z1. Both are comparably equipped. I like the Tige tower better but I like the ballast system better on the MB. I think I'd be happy with either.

The one point I can't figure out. The Tige dealer swears the wakeplate trim plate is mandatory - the MB dealer says its not needed ( and it isn't on the MB I am looking at).

Who is right?

Different boats, different hulls. So the trim tab will only benefit a hull designed for it.

Have you ridden behind any of them? That would be my determining factor.

Yes - ridden behind both. The wake behind the MB was the better of the two for wakeboarding. You would never want to slalom behind it. Isn't that what the trim tab does is flatten the wake?

"flatten the wake" well that is relative. It does change the shape of the wake. It adjusts it from more rampy to mellower. Depends on people's riding styles. Some like a more rampy wake to take jumps straight up rather than out. Maybe you prefer to land on the other side of the wake instead of out in the flats.

So, yes, adjusting the wake for a mellow shape, at higher speeds will be more ideal for slalom, but if the boat is loaded, the Tige will never be the ideal slalom boat--but it will be flatter than any stern-drive out there.

The trim tab on the MB is not really used for shaping the wake. It is used to get the boat to plane faster.
