|
|
Hi guys, I'm looking to purchase my first wakeboard. I've been leaning towards the Hyperlite State package. My mom also wants to wakeboard.. so we want to go check them out at a store before we buy. (We'll probably buy online, though).
Dick's, Dunhams, and REI none of them are carrying anything but kneeboards. We already have a kneeboard.
Do you guys know of a watersports store finder online?
Thanks,
Sean |

Where do you live? A lot of times your best bet is to find a local, smaller shop and avoid the big box retail stores. You'll get better advice and service and they will make sure to put you on the best board for your skill level and budget.
If you absolutely HAVE to go to a bigger store, marine stores sometimes carry them as well as big sports chain stores like Champs.
Google search your city and type "wakeboard shop" and see if anything comes up. |

I don't know where you are, but if there's an Academy Sports nearby, they carry some here.
But I would recommend following GnarShredd's advice and finding a shop that specializes in watersports gear - esp. since you're looking to get something to fit more than one rider. If there's a boat dealer near you, many also carry gear (and hopefully have someone knowledgeable about it as well.) _________________

Are you kidding me, you live in a Detroit suburb and you can't find a wakeboard shop, there must be 50 of them within a 30 minute drive of your house. Look harder. _________________ Brent B

Yea marina's and boat dealers generally carry a lot of water sports stuff including wakeboards.
The only advantage to a big box retailer is its usually cheaper (at least up north where I live thats how it works, you pay a fortune for the smaller knowledgable shops as they're tryin to survive).
And then if you really wanna drive (given I have no idea of ur area) cottage country places tend to have this stuff too.

rbkhockey83, Go to Skiers Pier in Waterford. Talk to PJ. They stock Hyperlite and Ronix. _________________ Whenever I see an $80,000 Wakesetter pulling a tuber, I die a little inside. |

| The benefit of a boat dealer or wakeboard shop is they will most likely let you demo a board to find out if it suits you. They will also know alot more about the boards than what some retailer read on the brochure to sound smart. |

Thanks, I found a few marina's thanks to some others on here. I might also check out some places by my cottage.
There's a modern skate that I could probably drive to, thanks for the help.

I want to go here, it's pretty far but from the pictures on their website it looks great, thanks.

Haha, wow your close! I probably go here, I was going to go to Wilson marine in Brighton where we bought our boat, but on West Marine's website it looks like they've got a great selection.
Thanks for the help. |

| Wilson Marine is a rip off for almost everything you could imagine. I was at the West Marine on South River Rd in Harrison Twp a few weeks ago and they had tons of nice boards. If you want, my buddy in White Lake has a 142cm CWB Flame "Rip It" edition board he is selling with CWB Deuce bindings for cheap. It's like new as he's a flamer and want to ride slalom rather than wakeboard. PM me if you're interested in it. |
