Lot's of good answers to my question as to the first trick for newbie to work on but I'm not sure of the terminology. First off, I am right handed and seem to gravitate to having my left foot forward and right foot in the back. Is that typical for a right handed person?

By "ride switch", are you referring to starting out left front and right rear and then do a surface 180 to end up right front, left rear?

Also......when I do a 180 or 360 on a kneeboard, I find that a tug on the rope to create some temporary slack is very helpful. Does the same concept apply to wakeboarding? IE: Should I tug the tow rope to create a little slack in attempting a surface 180?

Thanks. Really appreciate the help.

Doesn't really matter what hand you write with, most people just ride left foot forward, which is called regular stance. Switch stance for those people is right foot forward.
Some people feel better riding right foot forward, or what is called ‘goofy’, so switch to them is left foot forward.

In this example, yes, if you come out of the water left forward and you do a surface 180, you will be in switch stance.
No matter how you get there, for you, if you are riding right foot forward, it will be switch since your normal is left foot forward.
It is opposite if someone is normal right foot forward.

No, no need to tug on the line yet. When you pull the handle in you are speeding yourself up, which creates slack. This may cause you to catch an edge (digger) and face place if you are in a butter slide going to the 180. Later on down the rode after you’ve learn some wake jumps, you will learn to pull the handle in once you’re in the air to do some tricks. Handle control is key when wakeboarding. For example, the next time you go ride and you are directly behind the boat (left foot forward), take the handle and force it to the right or left and watch what happens.

It sounds like you’re new to riding, so welcome! Some keys to remember are;

Keep the handle low
Do not pull the handle to your lead hip, bring your hip to the handle.
Try and ride with your weight 50 / 50 balance on the board. You will see this with newer folks by the bent back leg / knee. Stand TALL and remember the key from above with your hips.
Relax!!!

Like anything new it will take time, the more time you spend doing it, the more comfortable it will feel. If you go out and ride and for example, you take 3 sets throughout the course of a day, try and devote one entire set to riding switch, or for that fact, try and devote a day to it.

Hopefully some of this information will help. Good luck!!

BrianABE, just about covered it.

If you're trying to do a surface 180, Lean back slightly with your weight centered evenly between your back and front foot, Move the rope from your lead hip to your rear hip and keep your knees bent. That will pull your body around switch.
