Im looking at painting my 1990 bayliner capri and also building a tower for it. Just wanted to share some concepts and see what people think and if there's any better ideas.
For the tower design, I will be building it myself with stainless steel 2inch pipe, I am limited to a simple bending tool, so don't want to make too many complicated bends. Also I haven't figured out how I will build the mounts yet, want something cheap and simple but looks good. An idea is to close of the ends of the pipe, and put a bolt right through the pipe and through the hull. Another idea is to use a heim joint, but not figured out how I would attach that to the end of the pipe yet.

Not sure yet, have some friends who have friends who know people who do this. So going to take a look at their work and then figure out the costs.

The tower I want to start next week though, estimating around 300 dollars to build it.

i built a tower a few years ago for a buddy. even having all the tools, and most of the hardware it was still over 500 to build. i would recomend buying one already built if the only reason for building one would be to save money

Definitely like the black hull version.
Painting shouldn't be too hard after you prep with some sanding, and get some top side paint. There are many different types,a and brands. Rustoleum makes a decent paint, that can be pretty easy to find. Use the roll and tip method.
Do your homework, and it should come out fine. Just do lots of prep work, black will show all the imperfections.

Universal towers can be had pretty cheap on ebay for a good tower. Would certainly save a lot of headache.

Where did you find the Ahamay engine? Wink

Thanks, I think im going for the black hull version too.

Cheapest tower I found to buy around here (Bahrain) is 1300 dollars. Thats a monster tower and would have to import it from Dubai.
I have access to all the welding and bending tools, its just the cost of the steel that im getting mixed quotes on. will figure it out.
Ill report back with progress as I get to work.
