Just looking for input on anyone who has owned or rode behind a '98 or 99 Air Nautique or X-Star. All I have rode behind is an '88 Prostar 190 with a monster tower. Will there be a big difference in wake?

The big difference I've noticed is the X-star is a V-drive and the Air Nautique is Direct.

Thanks!

The 99 xstar hull is one of the best hulls ever made. The original tower on the 99 xstar is hideous, and the interior leaves a bit to be desired, even for an older boat. However, again, the hull produces a phenominal wake. If the boat has the 330ltr motor, that's a huge plus as well.

Thanks for the input. I found a '99 x-star at a dealer several hours from me. It doesn't have a tower, or the original extended pylon. The dealer also said it doesn't include ballast, but as far as I know this came standard on this model (1 tank in the ski locker). I'll have to check on the engine type but they are asking 21k. I've seen '00 and 01's go for 22k-25k. I think the price is high, especially since like you said it's seating is limited because wrap-around didn't start until 2000.

got an 03 SANTE for 25k, just saying that seems high, a good tower or an original reproduction is probably 2k, ballast probably another grand, tower speakers and amp another 1k-1500, so get it fixed up to specs you're spending more than i did on a ready to ride behind boat, i would throw 15k-17k depending on the interior and overall condition

Yeah I'm going to think about it, no way I'm paying 21k for it. Its like you said about your SAN, I've seen newer SAN's and X-stars for a grand or 2 more.

Those early air nautiques (and super airs) are known for their steep/rampy wakes. I happen to love them. I owned a 95 prostar 190for a while, trying to pretend it could be a wakeboard boat. I rode behind a 2000 super and regular air nautique for a couple seasons when they were new. It was night and day difference. an open bow 205 would be a great hull too though. I just thought I would let you know the difference between your old boat and the boats you are looking at.

X-Star with V-drive would be a lot better than a direct drive. I like the wake better too and no sacks on the floor. Price sounds a little high for an "X-Star" with no tower..
