I've had 4 knee surgeries and have read on this forum that flex boards are great for bad knees so I am interested in getting a slingshot board. My husband is in medical school right now so we don't have a lot of extra money for me to buy a whole new board set up....especially one that I don't know much about. I would like to know what types of bindings are compatible with slingshot boards. I have a pair of cwb that I really like and would love to just get a reasonably priced board and use those bindings....but I doubt they will fit. Anyone know if you need to use slingshot bindings with the boards or what other types will work?

AFAIK every pair of bindings work on any slingshot boards, even their new sliding rail style boards because of the inserts that come with them. Don't quote me for sure though, let someone else chime in as well.

I ride slingshot and love them. I do feel they're the most forgiving board. However if you have a lot of issues with your knees and you like to get air, I dont think any board can save you from all the pressure of coming down.

Cheers and best of luck in your new endeavors.

the flex boards are a bit more forgiving and easier on the knees - Wakeboarder3780 is right on tho - you won't eliminate all the pounding by simply switching to a flex board..

you don't need SS boots on an SS board - had this conversation with the Hyperlite rep last weekend - we set up the system binding on a new SS board. for some of the earlier SS boards, you may need an adapter plate. I have Ronix ones on my SS response and this didn't require any additional hardware.

would recomend that you just compare the mounting patterns on the boot and the board - I'm not familiar with the CWB boots you're referencing - check out some of the boat forums for some good deals on used equipment - good luck

My wife and I both ride slingshots and we both use CWB torq bindings. They fit my old 2009 recoil and our new 2010 response and pearl boards. We love them but i am looking to upgrade to a pair of ss rad bindings in a 10 if anyone has them...

I ride a 2009 Recoil... chose it over the 2010 model (bought it last year) because they seem to be getting a little stiffer every year...

There is no comparison between flex and and conventional when coming up short or landing in the flats... yea, you still land hard... but it isnt that bone jarring teeth rattling impact you get with a rigid board...

Put it this way, I stopped trying to land in the flats all together when I rode my CWB... knees just couldnt take it... With my Slingshot, now I love charging it and landing out in the flats... And walking into work normaly the next day is pretty nice too!!!

That's what I want to hear. I ordered a slingshot board today. Looking forward to testing it out when it arrives in a few days. I just started wake boarding last year and am not very good at it yet, but it gets boring just riding behind the boat and crossing the wakes. I tried some jumps with my cwb board which I love but my knees are terrible and it just wasn't worth it. I'm also riding switch a lot now as I have been working on that. I ride goofy and could not ride switch at all for almost a whole summer, but I slalom with my left foot in front. Is that odd?
Also, I have a cwb faze beginner board that was great to learn on. With the fins it is super stable but difficult for me to get turned into switch position. Without the fins it is super loose and easy to turn, but sometimes difficult for me to control....probably because I am trying to do surface tricks. I'm hoping that the sling shot board will be a happy medium with stability but easy surface turning????

Depending on if your CWB bindings have the 8 inch or 6 inch plate you may need the adapter. Starting in 2009/2010, almost every major board manufacturer switched solely to the 6 inch plate, some even sooner than that. If your bindings don't match up, you can look into the adapter for it, or they will still work, you just won't be able to ride the widest or narrowest stance for the most part.

You may find that the slingshot actually feels really loose and squirrely at first. Ride it at least 5 times before you make up your mind. I like loose boards and even I thought this board was super loose when i rode it the first time. Then I remembered how to edge properly and it's the perfect compromise between grip and loose for me.

Just a forewarning, you are probably going to feel that this board is super slippery until you ride it a few times and get your proper edging technique.

Cheers!

I guess it depends on the board you are coming from and how it was set up... My old CWB with the center fin removed was way looser than my Recoil... My buddys Lyman is alot looser too... but i dont remember what he was running for fins.

I had a CWB Faze beginner board that I first learned to ride with the center fins on. After getting bored with that, I took the center fins off and it was a much funner ride, but really loose in my opinion. i just got my slingshot board in yesterday and put my CWB sevens bindings on it last night. Will try it out on the water this afternoon. I hope the bindings will be ok. I left a peice of hardware off so that I could use them on the new board. i will eventually get another pair of bindings for the new board, but for now i hope they will hold up ok.

Ended up not riding the flex because I did not like the way the bindings attached to the board. I tried to make them work but didn't want to mess anything up or lose hardware in the water so I just used the old board today. Think I am going to need an adaptor plate. Anyone know where I can find one?
