|
|
I think I've narrowed it down to 2 pairs of speakers.
The first is the Wet Sounds PRO 80
The second is the Wet Sounds PRO 485
Now I think the PRO 80's look cooler, just because they're separated, but does the 2 being connected work better? I'm looking for something that bangs some tunes to hear behind the boat and if turned up possibly around the lake... haha.
Also what about some EXILE XM7
http://www.exilecaraudio.com/products/xm7/
Seems to have a lot of research backing up their product, but i'd like to hear from someone who's been and rode behind some of these speakers? What would you guys recommend?
ALSO - What size AMP would I need to push a pair of these speakers and what brands would you guys recommend? I'd really appreciate any help, thanks guys! |

So are you debating between the pro80 and pro 485? If so you should run the 485 i mean if you wanna hear it everywhere, the 485 will be better. _________________ Whenever I see an $80,000 Wakesetter pulling a tuber, I die a little inside. |

Yeah dude it's looking like I'm going to be deciding between the PRO80's and the PRO485's
So the general consensus is that the PRO 485's are way louder.. Now in terms of an AMP, what would you guys recommend? Something to power 2 PRO 485's & an 8" sub? |

Can you explain a little more what this means? I'm only looking to purchase 1 PRO 485 to start with, but I eventually want to add another with an 8" sub. My budget right now will support 1 PRO 485 & 1 Amp.
That's why I'm trying to find an amp that in the future will power another 485 & sub. |

HairyBuds, the "3some package" and syn6 are wet sounds equipment.
http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/3-SOME.html
http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/SYN6.html
ok so your end goal is to run 2 485s and a sub?
you could run 2 485s and one sub off the syn6 but the 485s would be underpowered. The 485 is 300rms and the syn6 will do 2x200 and 1x600 for a sub (if i'm reading their spec sheet right.) Not that the 485s won't still sound great, they just won't be at their full potential.
What type of boat are you putting these on?
I bought some PRO-60s off a guy who upgrade to 485 and man those things are HUGE. I only have a little 20' direct drive and no way I could run the 485 let alone two of them! thats why i'm asking.
At minimum I'd say you'll be looking at 2 amps to run all three speakers at their potential. 2-485 on one and the sub on another.
At first look the SYN2 I thought would be your amp, at 350x2 but thats at 2ohms while at 4ohms its only 200watts. _________________ Whenever I see an $80,000 Wakesetter pulling a tuber, I die a little inside. |

| Yeah dude my end goal is to run 2 485's and a 8" sub to just bring a little bass to the water. I'm putting these on a Centurian. So what are you recommending, the SYN6 doesn't have enough power to run 2 485's and a sub? Is there anything more powerful? Or would it really be buying 2 amps? If so are there 2 more affordable amps that would be in the 300$ range perhaps? What if I bought an amp to run the 2 485's and worried about finding an amp to power the sub later down the line? |

haha sorry about that. I sell both the exiles and wet sounds, and the wetsounds are WAAAAYY better.
As far as the 485, yeah they are better full range than the pro 80s, but the pro 80s are still awesome. You can also do a double up system, which is a set of 80s and 60s. Sound is great and tons of people like that look better.
For your amp, just get a good quality amp, no cheap crap, otherwise the money you spend on the speakers will be kind of a waste. You need about 500W rms, and worry about the sub and amp later. btw, you might want a bigger sub than an 8" cause you lose a lot of the bass out on the water.
Hope this helps |

Right on, would 2 485's sound better than a set of 80's and 60's put together? Would there be an amp you recommend?
Here's a list of kicker's marine amps :
ZXM350.4 $349.95
ZXM450.2 $399.95
ZXM700.5 $549.95
and here's another option : JL Audio M4500 500W RMS 4-Channel M-Series Marine Amplifer - $280
Is there another amp you know of perhaps? I've used kicker in the past and have never been disappointed, but the 450 only has 2 channels??? How many do I need, 4? |

I disagree. Two Pro 80's are louder than one 485. |

I have 2 x Wetsound 3-some packages and my boat is, BY FAR, the best and clearest sounding boat on my entire lake. I get asked weekly about my setup.
If you have a budget for either 1 x 485 or 2 x Pro 80 I would highly recommend the single 485.
Don't go with a marine amp unless you have to. I run 5 JL amps in my storage area, none are marine rated...they simply don't get wet.
Kicker amps are far inferior to JL. Spend the money on the amps, its the only way to get your Wetsounds to perform as they are intended.
Here's a pic on my old X-Star. I moved the setup to my new X-Star, just didn't take any pics.
Regards,

@TnR6Rida What kind of amps are you running on your setup, that looks like what I'd probably end up getting.
So I guess my question becomes which amp would be ideal for a threesome package in the future? 1 SET PRO 485 1 SET PRO 60's What kind of amp would run that? Do you have any suggestions? Kinda looking for some names or model numebrs, stuff to look into or get a start with. You're saying kicker amp's aren't good? @ Dusty? |

| Amp is working out great. We are running a separate amp for our 3 subs tho. Just not enough power out of the syn 6 to run everything. |

Yeah 2 485s will still sound a bit better than the double up. You don't need a 4 ch amp, because you can run them bridged in a 2 ch mode. Also, if you don't leave your boat in the water(u tow it home) then you don't really need a marine amp. That's just an easy way for companies to make extra $$$. We've done a Ron of setups with regular car amps with no issues for years.
Of the amps u mentioned, I'd go with the kicker 2 ch, or you can use the 700.5 which is a 5 chanel and then you would bridge the 4 channels into to(makes more power that way) and the 5 th ch could run the sub.
We usually use audison or hertz amps, but they're a bit pricy.
Any qualified shop, or if u have some car audio knowledge should be able to wire this system, just remember to fuse everything and use quality cables. |

My problem with Kicker amps is they don't actually give you the RMS rating they claim. They are highly overstated and you aren't getting what they tell you that you are paying for. If an amp says 500W RMS I expect 500 watts continuos. With JL you get that, with Kicker you won't. There's a reason Kicker cost less.
I also have a friend that used to work at the Kicker factory for several years and he confirmed everything (and more) about the shortcuts they take in manufacturing to cut time, materials, and ultimately costs.
I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars on speakers only to shortcut the amps feeding them to save a few hundred and ultimately be disappointed.
Best,
