|
|
Last season I bought my first wakeboard (new 09 LF S4 with 09 Soven bindings) and I love my setup. I love it enough that it started to bother me that maybe 5 different people a day of all different sizes were slipping into and out of my bindings. I have to assume that's going to wear them out MUCH quicker than if I was just using them myself. This got me thinking about buying a community board.
I was just wondering how many of you have a community board that you let your buddies use that is seperate from your own personal board? And maybe some recommendations on a relatively cheap setup? I assume OT bindings? |

I also hated when others would ride my board.
Even more so when I got my new CT bindings.
So when I got my Ronix Viva, I put an old set of bindings on my LF board and now I could care less.
For the majority of people who either are leaning or can just hang out behind the boat; my old board is a LF Trip 142, anybody can ride it big or small. And a pair of LF OT bindings. 9-11. Done and done. _________________ Whenever I see an $80,000 Wakesetter pulling a tuber, I die a little inside. |

A spare board is a must... We keep a 2004 CWB Prodigy with 08 Watson bindings on the boat at all times... if you dont have your own board, thats what you ride... lol _________________ When life hands you a Jeffrey just rub the furry walls... |

| I'm thinking about getting something relatively cheap with some long tracking fins to make the board feel really stable and planted. Most of my friends have not wakeboarded much at all and are pretty shaky when they get up. I'm riding an LF S4 which is a pretty loose board and it's easy to see that they aren't stable when they get up. I'm thinking something more planted would be better for them and some OT bindings that fit everyone. I don't like them wearing my CT Sovens. |

How is it? Does it serve pretty well as a board for begginer riders? |

Look through the classifieds on here or ebay for a used set up, still get something decent for not a lot of dough. I have 2 loaner set ups, my old premier(141) with HL states and a HL ERA(136) with some cwb hinge things that I didn't like. _________________

I finally got a new setup for myself, so I know what you're talking about with the bindings, especially if yours are like mine and are heat molded to your specific foot. I just let people ride my old LF beginner board. I got a package last year with some 2010 Vantage open toe, and they work great on the community board because they're easy to get in and out of, and they fit a wide range of foot sizes. Plus the community board doubles as a great cable board...no fins, velcro bindings I know when I bought my first LF package I paid 215 shipped for the board and some cheap bindings. Lasted 4 years with me riding it, and it's still kicking! |

I have a size 13 closed toe, so no one would fit into mine... I bought a cheap bass pro hydro wake package deal. If they like the sport, I told em to go buy a better board and they weren't riding my setup. _________________ 2010 Glastron GT 205XL ( Volvo 4.3L GL-J)

Well I'm wearing size 12 CT bindings so no one really fits them either except for me but they still wear them. I'll probably use Jeffrey's suggestion and try to pick up a pretty decent used board for cheap and that will work out better for everyone. I think I want a board that feels pretty planted to the the water with some fairly long tracking fins. Like I said earlier, everyone else that rides my board is a beginner and they struggle with my S4 being such a loose board so I think something a little more planted would be better.
Anyone have a suggestion on a board that would somewhat fit this description? I'm not worried as much about the bindings, just as long as they're OT. Like 3Mile said, if you like the sport and don't want to use those bindings, buy your own board. |

I have 3 community boards varying from different size ranges so I have one to fit anyone. If you have some extra cash laying around it's the best thing you can do to protect the longevity of your ride. And pretty cheap too. If you keep an eye on the forums here you can get old boards that have been ridden a lot for like 100 bucks. Sometimes they even come with bindings. I picked up all my community boards from a fellow doing a "garage sale" in the forum. Look for setups that come with bindings on it already and you can save some change. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

| I can get a used Ronix Viva 144 that "has been ridden once for 10 minutes" for $150 plus shipping so I was thinking about jumping on that. I'm also looking at a new HL Apex 142 with bindings but it is $289. Not bad, but still a pretty good amount for a board I won't even ride much. |

| This is why I keep my old boards and dont sell them. I ride my current model stuff and let everyone else ride the older stuff. My community boards aren't bad though (2008 Shane ltd and Shane ltd bindings and a 2009 S4 fly and 2010 Shane bindings). Nobody's touching my 2011 Shane / Shane bindings but me! |

That's what I plan on doing but since I am on my very first wakeboard I don't have any backups. I may just suck it up and let everyone use mine till I get a new setup, and then I will have a new personal board and the S4 as a community board. I just know that I will probably have to buy a new board/bindings after this season which kinda sucks. |

I definitely have a community board-mostly to keep my bindings from getting torn up. I have a smaller foot (size 9.5) and most of my buddies are the Sasquatch so I won't let them touch mine. Kept the board I learned on and got some big bindings for it so they can ride as much as they want. _________________

| I'm thinking about maybe getting that Ronix Viva b/c $150 seems like a good deal on it and it has the fins that would give my friends that "more planted" feel. The only issue is the bindings. I'm trying to stay under $300 or $350 max for the whole setup. I found some new 2010 OT LF Transit bindings for $125 but the sizing is for 12+. Most of my friends have between a 10-12 size foot so I'm kinda wondering if I got those and tightened them down tight if it would be okay or if their feet would come out during a crash? Also we will have a few girls that may use the board that have even smaller feet than that. That's a good deal on the bindings but I don't want anyone having a foot come out and tear up their knee... Anyone know if these can be tightened down enough to work or probably not? |

If you have a fairly regular crew that goes along a lot, you should see if they want to throw in together to get a set up to share. That way they can pick out something that will work for all of them.
I don't know about LF bindings, however it's been my experience if they say 12+ they mean it. One of my loaners has a pair of HL states 12-14 and my buddy that has size 11 swims in them. However my CWB hinge that are xl or xxl (spose to fit 12-14) I can hardly get my size 13 into them, and my buddy with size 11 fits him like a glove. _________________

| I found some new 2011 Hyperlite Freak1cy bindings in size 7-12 for $99 that I think may go pretty well with that Ronix Viva. I know they aren't the greatest bindings but for $250 I can walk away with a pretty nice Ronix board and some versatile bindings that should fit everyone on the boat. |

My last year setup is my loaner board. but since i never sell my old boards or bindinges. and have been wakeboarding since 1999. I have a museum of old boards and bindings. Minus the ones i have made into benches etc.
funny enough the all tend to pick the CT ones ??? boards I pick out depending on there size etc, so they get a board that fits.
some of the older hyperlites with big fines are really good for beginners
and have bought a setup for the girlfriend, that people with small feet can use as well. |

My old board always becomes the community board. When that board gets replaced with another it normally gets given away to somebody super excited about wake boarding for the first time.
Current board for me: 2010 Slingshot responce
Current community board: 2006 byerly
give away 2 years ago: 2002 hyperlite murry. _________________ if only i knew better |

I bought those bindings. I still have them with the sticker on them, never used them. I would say they'd be fine for a casual rider. If someone started getting serious in their jumps I would not recommend them due to the laces bungee style cord.
If you're interested in these bindings let me know. I'd rather sell you mine because I think I jumped the gun and don't need them. I'd rather sell them to you for a slightly lower price and get most of my money back =/ _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

| No community board here - we're total snobs - we barely invite guests or friends - when we do- they bring everything they need for gear our stuff doesn't get touched - unless of course we run a doubles sesh with one of my crew.. and our guests are also properly trained to deposit gas money in the glove box. |

That's awesome. Problem is I don't really have any friends that ride. I'd be more than willing to offer gas money if I could buddy up with some guys on Kentucky Lake, but I really don't even see many wakeboarders out there. I've got one other friend that rides and has his own gear but he doesn't go near as much as I do and when we do go we just take my dads boat out (Sea Ray 230 Bowrider.) Definitely not the ideal wakeboard setup but it gets us by and puts out a decent wake. Just wish it had a tower. |

I've converted my old board that I've ridden for the past few years (08 Gator Legend 140 with the 08 Gator Gonzalez Ltd bindings, sz 11-12) into one of our 3 community boards. Basically, whenever my buddies or myself get a new board, we toss our old one into the community pile.
Now currently riding the 2010 Ronix One with the pair of 2010 Ronix One Bindings, and LOVIN it! |

That's what I plan on doing, just using my old boards as community boards but when it's your first it doesn't leave you much to fall back on. I'm thinking about picking one of these up from evogear.
http://www.evo.com/wakeboards/cwb-faze-wakeboard-edge-boots-2011.aspx
Seems like a decent board that should track pretty well with the fins and the hinge bindings should be easy for everyone to get into and out of. What does everyone think? Decent setup? Under $300 for a new board and bindings seems pretty good if it's decent. |
