I'm sort of new to wakeboarding. I can get out of the water no problem. I can edge ok. No tricks yet...I'm still learning how to do a basic one wake jump...haven't figured it out last summer so I'll try again this summer. But I've been looking around at "sizing charts" and such and recently bought a board. I'm about 5'10" and my weight fluctuates between 165-175lbs depending on the time of year and how much time I get to go to the gym. I bought a 144cm board because I thought it was a good deal (2010 Hyperlite B-Side brand new, $150) and based on some charts it should be ok. But based on other charts, a 144cm seems to be way too big for me. Did I make a bad purchase with a 144cm board??? Should I have gone with a board less than 140cm?? Thanks for your help!

I think you should be fine. The bigger board should make landings a little easier for you and will definitively pop you out of the water easier

Ya man, I wouldn't worry about it. A board that's a little too big can actually be a good thing for a beginner. Just make sure you look at the size charts when you're ready for your 2nd board Very Happy

Do your bindings fit ok? I'd be more concerned about that because bindings that are too big could potentially contribute to an ankle injury if you land awkwardly and explode out of the bindings.

The bindings feel good...not loose at at all, pretty snug fit

I'd say you're fine. I ride at 185-190lbs and am on a 143. Like everyone said, if anything it will ride a little faster, pop a little better, and be softer on landings once you do get those jumps down.

What everyone else said. I would definitely check out the sizing charts for your next boar though. You will eventually hit a point with surface tricks, etc. that a board that's big for you will become an inconvenience. I'm 6'2, 180 LBS, and I ride a 138. A larger board should be fine for now though. I started out on a 142 and learned the basics on that. It was much easier to learn to cut, get up, etc. when you have a larger surface under you.
