'99 Sea Ray BR180 3.0 135hp:
Weekend Warrior - Wakeboarding/Tubing Freak

Our 3.0 was going along fine.
I came from under a bridge @ idle speed; began to accellerate; felt like a buck (don't think I HIT anything) but the motor free spun.

Got in the 5' deep water, checked it out - prop fine, skeg fine, no resistance on the prop (motor not on).
Restarted, throttle forward, free spinning with no go.... Reverse FELT like a slight tug, then nothing ~ but we were in a slight current too.

Swam the boat back up the canal. Wink

IS THERE A KEY on the DRIVESHAFT of the Alpha 1 ??
The motor seems fine - tranny goes forward, reverse fine - not no motion transferred to the prop.

The hub of the prop is designed to free-wheel if the prop hits something. This will save the outdrive. You can try to turn the prop while the outdrive is in gear. See if the inner hup is turning. Make sure the ignition is off before you try this.

agreed.

Sounds like a spun hub. It's a cheap fix.

Okay guys:
I put the throttle IN GEAR / forward ((boat off - not even a key in the ignition)). Wink

Jumping into the water, as it's on the lift:

When I turn it clock wise, it has a clicking/clacking type of noise & everything spins.
When I turn it counter-clock wise, the center shaft STAYS PUT and the prop turns - with some effort.

So - IS THAT A SPUN HUB??

If so, if I were to buy a NEW PROP with a HUB KIT - is that all I need?? Question

If the prop shaft stays put one direction and clicks and spins the other your outdrive and driveline are fine. Your hubs spun.

according to your description, it may not be a spun hub after all. However, if it is you do not need to replace the prop to replace the hub....
