| I am deciding between a monster mt2, and an aerial assault tower. Does anyone have any insight on either of these towers? Pros, cons, etc.

I don't know about either one of those, but i got my tower from DIY wake; and love it. rock solid. looks great easy to install. no noise; i check the joints every couple times we go out just to make sure they are tight but other than that its great.

The Monster tower is solid from any feedback I've ever heard. The only feedback I've heard on the Assault is that it can be a little noisy with that back leg design. The other Aerial towers seem to be good...solid and quiet.

| Thanks, has anyone installed these? Are you making any backing plate to install it with or not?

rmk700, Installed both of them, amongst others (It's my job )
The MT2 is solid, easy to install and bomb proof. The folding system is also great (always below windscreen height). I've done hundreds of them now and we very rarely have issues. A geat thing is the anodised finish... It looks polished but offers awesome protection. If you put it up against other anodised towers, the others tend to look 'milky' due to their differing anodising method. Another option is a polished tower but they react to salt, deposits in the lake water etc and require an awful lot f polishing.
I've only got god things to say about the service from MT too, my experiences tend to come from the side of a distributor buying from them but I've always been taken care of very well which allows me to take care of my customers. There are some great companies in this business but in 10 years installing and distributing Wakeboard Towers in Europe, I've struggled to find anyone who stands behind their stuff like Monster... The only other brands springing to mind would be the guys at Wet Sounds and Insanity Pylons.
Something else to bare in mind is the flexibilty of install... The MT2 looks great in a variety of install styles, depending on how far apart and where you mount the feet. The Aerial however has fixed feet so mounting can be very tricky on some boats as you need a clear area under the deck at a given distance apart.... this can often involve a huge headache (moving wiring, control cables, etc) or putting the tower to far forward/back in order to get it to work... It's pot luck: Sometimes the 'fixed feet' towers wil go right on, sometimes they require the boat modifying.
I don't want to slate the Aerial tower... Believe me it's still a great bit of kit! If you buy I do not think you'll be dissapointed! Nice mounting hardwear, good price, good looks etc etc... I've also always found the gys at Aerial super friendly and helpful. I would just give the MT2 the edge due to finish, easy fitting and warranty coverage.
Hope that helps in your hunt!

Thanks Brit Rider, I ended up with the MT2 I was wondering if it is suggested to make a larger backing plate for the mounts or if the factory mounts will suffice. If people are using the backing plates are they just chunks of plywood?
Thanks again

| The dealer that installed mine used a 3/4 thick compasite material and made the biggest piece he could fit in the area. The composite has some flex to it which will conform to a slight curve.

rmk700, Wise purchase
If your deck i 3/8ths or thicker, you won't need to reinforce.. If less you will want to.
We find th ebest installs ar eon the more solid bases so if you have time, it's always god to reinforce, regardless of deck thickness... unless it's over say 1/2" right now.
Exterior Ply works fine, as does fibreglass cloth, composite board etc etc. The choices are many so just pick whatever has enough flex to conform to your deck (no steel plates!) and you're most comfortable using
PM me any specific questions if you like and I can send step by step instructions.
