I currently have an 08 Searay 195 Sport Wake Pkg w/ 5.0 and am looking at making a few changes to assist in holding speed. Anyone with an I/O knows that proper wakeboarding speed is right at the brink of planing and you tend to fall off plane very easily which makes it challenging to say the least. I was planning on adding Perfect Pass and a new prop, but it has been suggested that adding smart tabs could do exactly what i am looking for without the large expense. My concern is that i have heard that adding tabs will reduce wake size. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
thanks - James |

What you have heard is correct. The tabs will flatten the wake quite a bit.
PP + the right prop is the way to go. _________________

jmlloyd, I have Smart Tabs on my boat (I also sell them in the UK), and whilst they do help a little with getting onto plane quicker, they are next to useless when it comes to wakeboarding improvement.
A high 5 prop and perfect pass are the only things you need to assist speed holding. Smart tabs simple reduce time to plane and help you regain your trim on the motor.
They actually marginally reduce wake size and mess with the shape.
For general boating, in my opinion they are a great buy... But for wakeboarding, you'd be well advised to lift them up out of the way (Look into the lifting option that allows you to swing them up when you don't want them).
Hope that helps!

Get the high five prop asap. It will put you on plane alot faster and will keep your speed relatively constant _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

I had the same problem you are having with your SeaRay. At the end oflast year I bought a High 5 prop and it helped tremendously. To the point that I am no longer thinking about spending the money on PP.
I went through these guys. Great people to work with. Highly recomend them.

Another thumbs up here for nettleprops, they delivered to me internationally and everything was great. Fast and smooth. Also the best price I could find.
I got the 17pitch, for my yamaha 200 outboard, it does help, but not as much as I was hoping, Its still a difficult with holding speed, actually I find it very easy to drive myself, but the other people who drive for me still find it difficult and never get it right, so its only really frustrating for me to be riding behind. |
