What are peoples opinions on these? Thinking about buying one - Main concern is possible damage to the pop up cleats on the boat. My boat is 6 months old and I can't afford a decent tower. Pylon seems a cheap and easy solution but worried about damage to what is a new boat.

What kind of boat do you have?
those cleats are very well reinforced in most cases. (in the normal direction)

We installed a "Fly high pylon" which is a 7ft lift. but if your really worried about side to side torque you should put the pole base as close to in line with the cleats as you can.

on my boat we mounted the pylon on the back above the engine compartment, not only did this lift the rope 3ft higher than if mounted on the floor but also allowed the side cleat lines to be perpendicular to the mainline and nose strap. This configuration is ideal geometry and you may not be able to do so on your boat but the closer you are to perpendicular to the main line the better the support b/c the cleats are re-infocred to be pulled straight out (normal), they have a plate behind them to distribute this load outward from their base, but if you pull them to horizontally (forward or back) with enough force you can tear through fiberglass(in theory)

We were very concerned about the same problem and worked ou the math, it should be fine but be smart because your dealing with a large lever arm.

Boat is a Regal 2520 Fasdeck.
I was worried about the metal to metal rubbing on the cleats. Also as the boat is 25ft+ I was concerned that the force would be pulling Horizontally on them. (The bowrider section is huge on the boat so the distance to the front cleats is big.
Are you recommending the pylon be mounted as close to the rear of the boat as possible?

okay You dont hook up to the fron cleats with a pylon, it loops over the front of the boat and runs through the U-hook where you ratchet the boat to the trailer, i just looked up insanity pylons and they follow this typical construction (DO NOT) hook the the front cleats, so yes i am saying the pylon is most stable the closer to in line between the rear cleats of the boat

the snap hooks (carabiners) on the rear straps can be removed, and it says it in the instruction manual as well. so if you are worried about the metal rubbing on metal of the snap hooks rubbing on the rear cleats, just take the snap hooks off the straps. then you can use the loops on the end of the straps to loop them on to your cleats. they designed it this way because it makes it more versatile for the customer. this is how i use it on my boat.

I attached an image straight off the insanity pylon website from their instruction manual.
