As some of you might remember, someone hit my 996TT a few years ago. WB.com advised me to get rid of it because it would never be the same. But, I didn't listen.

Turns out, you guys were right. A year or so after all was repaired, a tie rod on the rear wheel where it was hit broke for no reason whatsoever. So, had it fixed and they told me they must have overtorqued it which was the cause. Well, I could live with that once. Then had several track days and all was well. But, out of the blue the exact same thing happened a few weeks ago. Twice, I couldn't deal with. If that tie rod broke at the wrong time it is game over. So, had to get rid of my baby (I really did love that car). But, I replaced it with a new baby. When I dropped my car off at the dealer to get it fixed I ended up setting it next to a 2007 GT3 with 2200 miles on it with no track time whatsoever. I fell in love again.

I can't wait to get to the track. 2 weeks and counting.

Nor*Cal, HAHA I was thinking the same damn thing!

I love it. Well, everything but the spoiler, but hey it's functional and it's factory.

The spoiler is a love/hate thing. I love it on the GT3, hate it on almost everything else...except the GT2. Still think the TT was faster in a straight line (only because it had steroids) but this thing will kill the TT on the track. I have only passed one of these ever and that's because the driver had to be terrible.

I have been playing around with it on the street because I am a little nervous about giving up the AWD. I was really used to throwing the TT into anything I wanted and knowing I would come out ok.

So, going to take it easy and run street tires until I get used to it.

htownbdr, I think once you settle in to it you'll be just fine. Oversteer is a learned skill, and the more time you spend with the azz out the better you be at it - and better knowing where that limit is.

Why not grab an instructor and go for some laps? He/she can certainly get you closer to being in that groove in a lot faster manner than the trial by fire method. Call it cheap insurance....

that is awesome. Laughing a gt3 is on my dream car list, but i don't think i'd ever get one unless i was taking it to the track on a regular basis. a carrera s would do me just fine thanks.

congrats on the car, man. just don't drive an rs, and you'll be happy with it. haha.

I have requested an instructor and to drop down a run group for the first session. They are great at hooking you up with instructors that know your car and there are several GT3's that go to the events I go to. So, shouldn't have a problem. I have been reading a lot to learn what to expect. Never really been into trail braking and, from what I read, going to have to get into that.

It does have the ceramics...that is, until I wear them out. I learned what a new set of ceramic rotors cost and when they wear through I will be replacing with steel.

RS was out of the budget. Still need a little room to grow anyways. Smile

I definitely wouldn't get a GT3 unless the track was a passion. It does drive pretty rough and is loud. But, sounds great to me. I debated over this and a 996 GT2 for awhile but decided I liked the track better than street driving so went with the 3.

What are the thoughts on tinted windows? I have tinted every car I have ever had. But, when looking at pictures of the old car, that is just a lot of black. I think the clear windows help bring out the lines. But, I hate other people being able to see me while I'm driving.

I'm going to go against the others on this.... I love tinted windows but not on this. I think you're totally right that it will detract from the lines of the car and be an awful lot of black.

Maybe just a very light smoke tint? But then the whole "Hate people seeing me whilst I drive" is still going to be there...

H Town - have you run clockwise at TWS? Flush your brakes before you go! I had 4 month old Motul 660 in my car and still boiled fluid there. Fresh fluid will have no moisture, and keep your lighter car from having any issues.

Even the Miatas and Minis run over 110 at the end of the straightaway, you should be well over 140 and hitting the brakes hard before you head down the banking to Moe, Curly and Larry.

What a great place to break in the car for a track weekend. Cross your fingers that you get Steve Hill to instruct. I've seen him do things in a GT3, I can't imagine ever being able to do as a driver.

htownbdr, Definitely not hating on you man! Love the car. There was just his whole discussion in the other thread about how $30k would affect different people different ways depending on their respective economic status. Some folks were telling the OP to keep the GT500 he won and others were saying sell it because, at his stage in life, the money would be more beneficial. I thought it was funny how this thread is an obvious contrast in situations. You, obviously, are in a position to afford to buy and maintain such high-end toys. Great for you man!

Buying an ultra high end sports car is really not that much different that dropping 90k on a crazy loaded WB boat anyway. It's all what you're into and what you can safely afford.

Hope you enjoy the ride.
