Question about quality of board manufactures?

Where im coming from is unless you ride all the terrains, i dont see it. If you were just starting out snowboarding would you go out and buy 5 different boards or would you buy 1 to progress on. Its the same scenario. And something to munch on is that wakeboarding is still in its early years compared to snowboarding. Think about how in the last 5 years how much the equipment has evolved. Now look 10 years down the road and think about whats to come. Pretty soon its going to end up like snowboarding with terrain specific boards.

Wow guys thanks for all the feedback this is exactly what I was looking for! I am looking for a board that will grip well when I ride behind the boat (so I guess I will ride bigger fins then) and something that is loose when riding at the cablepark (easier for me to slide and jib with) Please keep all the input coming guys it is really helping.

I feel that both snowboarding and Wakebaording have there many variables fella's. For snowboarding there are jib boards, powder, hard, soft, rocker, camber, negative camber etc. the list goes on and on just as in wakeboarding there are many varaibles depending what your riding style is. Now I will say that the snowboard industry is much bigger for sure with many more comapnies and products to choose from. I think what holds wakebording back or used to was the the cost of a the boat but, with cable parks, winching, and the new system 2.0 it has really changed the game and brought wakeboarding more main stream.

I would agree that you asked a very opinionated question. I can tell you I've ridden in this order Hyperlite, Liquid Force, Slingshot boards. I've been impressed with the quality of every single board. I personally have not tried Ronix, but it seems as others have vouched for them so I guess I would try that too.

My opinionated opinion Wink

is that you should try a flex technology board. Coming from a snowboarding background I think you will like the way it feels versus a stiff traditional board. (It's a lot more consistent of a feel to do manuals, and screwing around switching edges).

The only board co. I've tried that does flex is Slingshot, but I think a company called "Company" also makes them. I do not know where either manufacturers their boards.

If you are wondering what specific Slingshot model I ride, it's the continuous rocker - the slingshot response. I think they have a hybrid rocker out now called the reflex that would probably be a great starting point for you.

Just my $.02

After you get a board make sure you take every opportunity to try other boards. As previously mentioned there are TONS of different shapes that will dictate how the board "feels" and behaves underneath you. You may find you fall in love with a different board in an instant.

Not to start a flame war, but still in my personal opinion I have *not* been impressed with obrien gear, mainly their bindings. They seem to be much less durable than others.

People get so hung up on boards that they forget to talk about bindings. IMO binding selection is far more important than board selection. Granted, you should choose the correct board for your size and riding style, but it wont matter if your bindings don't fit properly. Ill fitting, uncomfortable bindings have cut many a session short for many people, regardless of what board they ride.

That said, Liquid Force RULES!!!! Very Happy

9DROZD, Starting out snowboarding you don't need 6 different boards. An all mountain deck will do everything ok, but won't excel in any one area. BTW I own 5 wakeboards and 1 snowboard lol.

OperationROL, We are discussing the difference between buying a snowboard and a wakeboard. Since the OP comes from a SB background so it's relevant, and really there aren't as many things to consider in buying a wakeboard.

HHI Dave, I have to agree there, you can have the greatest board in the world but if your bindings suck it'll still be a crap ride.

All that aside, I'm a Hyperlite fanboy lol. I have 3 of them '08 ERA, '09 Premier, and '09 Murray. The ERA and Premier ride about the same, the Murray is a lot quicker edge to edge, and not very forgiving. I also have 2 pairs of HL bindings, State open toe, and Murray closed toe. Both good and comfy, the only complaint I've ever had about either is the lace locks are kinda sucky.
