|
|
| Hey everyone, Im new to the forum and have a few basic questions. Right now I am riding my old 2004 Hyperlite TFD 136. I have been out of the state/country for school the last 4 years and am just getting back and looking to start up again, and therefore looking at buying a new board. Nothing wrong with the old one, just feel six years later its probably outdated using the biolite core. I was looking at the '10 Marek Nova 141 (Im about 6' 155lbs now). And basically Im wondering how much of a difference I'm going to notice in the ride, especially since they are both abrupt continuous. Is the difference going to be so noticable that its worth spending about $900 on the board and new bindings (which i need badly) to have it shipped out to me? I have not had the pleasure of riding anything past the '08 line so besides being an avid hyperlite fan and reading online I dont know too much about whats changed. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thx. |

| basically in the construction of het boards there supposed to be lighter, they have stronger sidewall construction and have carbon fiber inlays for stiffness, and sintered bases to take the abuse of sliders. most of the 2010 ronix boards have this same technology one, viva, bill, ibex, if you feel that you dont need the sintered base or carbon fiber/ everyhting else you can get a good new 08-09 board and binding setup for around 400- 600 (in the high end boards) and i would suggest ronix boots, not saying they are the best, but i prefer them, heat formable baseless mounting system. idk if hyperlite had this in there new boots, but whatever. if you were looking at the marek (abrupt continuos) you could compare it to the ronix viva, or hyperlite murray (subtle three stage) to a ronix one, i havent ridden any of the dine series boards so cant tell you how they feel on the water, just thought i would give you alittle bit to compare to |

the marek is really just the evolution of that TFD mold, youll notice a lot of similarities in how it rides. The marek has a little more rocker, so it'll push you up a little more than out compared to your TFD, but with a lot of similar ride characteristics. (speed, release, turn-in) As for nova core, It's a PVC foam vs. Urethane (biolites are urethane) which is much lighter and has more memory, meaning it snaps back to it's original rockerline faster as the board flexes through the transition of the wake. It's not night and day, but you get a slightly springier pop than with a standard core board. I'd also recommend staying away from the 09's, the inserts rip out on a frequent basis, make sure you get a 2010 or 2011 with the strata mounts (burton snowboard looking track) If you get the bio core, which is a little stronger by nature due to the core being denser, it will have standard screw inserts.
The sidewalls are not rope edge like hawkster said, and hyperlite doesn't offer a sintered base.
Hawkster, I know you read you ronix brochure cover to cover, but much of whats in there doesn't apply to other brands' gear _________________

The biggest deal is that you can listen to peoples advice all day but without demoing the gear yourself, you wont feel quite at home on your setup. People can point you in the right direction but cant decide for you. If you can go find a local HL dealer and see if they have a demo program. Try several different boards and bindings and put your setup together on what feels right for you. Also try some other brands such as liquid force and ronix. The biggest change in the last 4 or so years has been the evolution of the bindings. They are way more comfy than back in 06 and 07. One other thing you need to watch for is (i believe it was 08 to 09) that the mounting holes on the boars and bindings went from like a 8" to 6". So dont mix and match unless they will fit, but other than that good luck with your board setup bro. _________________ Rider: "Howd that last trick look?"

enduro base isn't sintered. Sintered bases require a much more expensive and time consuming process to apply, and also hold up much better than the "Enduro" base on hyperlite. and yes, Byerly does offer the sronger rope edge sidewalls, but nothing in the Hyperlite line has it, and vise versa on the enduro base, you won't find it in the byerly line at all. _________________

| yeah i guess your right, ronix is the only brans to offer a actual sinteered base, they all have there own "slider base" whatever it is, and some have "ABS" sidewalls not sure what that stands for though |

well liquid force's grind base is sintered as well. ABS is a type of very impact resistant plastic. _________________

Craig-R dont be such a dick, and if your gonna say im wrong tell exactly how each brand makes there slider base whether its hyperlites enduro, slingshots durabase, or that of obriens local/r5
LakeIolaLuke, i could really find much beyond, what liquid force calls there grind version so i couldnt really know whether it is or not |

hawkster0001, the guy didn't ask what the history is of every material ever used to create a wakeboard, he basically asked how new boards are going to feel to him, a question which was answered pretty concisely by LakeIolaLuke. all you do is just talk, regardless if it helps anyone, you just say whatever you're thinking no matter how ridiculous or how misinformed you might be. just learn to see the opportunities when you might be able to help someone, and not just tell them advice because you "think" you "might" be right, "maybe." it pisses me off because if everyone on the site listened to your bad advice, not only would wakeboarder.com get a bad rap for being a site with a bunch of morons who know nothing about wakeboarding, but nobody would ever learn anything!!

Hey guys thanks for all the advise it was all helpful since i have been out of the sport for so long. I ended up buying the marek with the marek bindings yesterday. My only concern now is that the guy at the pro shop told me i should get a bigger size, up from my old 136, and convinced me to buy a 141. At 155 im trying to gain some weight anyway so im hoping this is a size i can grow into. I loved my 136 and am hoping the size difference won't really matter but im reading some online that are saying for my size even a 134 might have been better. Should i return it or is the 141 still ok. Im more concerned the guy was just trying to get commission off the more expensive board, and as its already out of season 136's are pretty hard to come by out here in the desert. Sorry for all the begginer questions but out here we don't have a place that let's you demo before you buy them. |
