| I am looking at getting a tower for my boat. I am looking at spending around 1000 on a good universal tower and I really like the Aerial Airborne tower. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

What kind of boat do you have?
My dad and I grabbed a monster tower and threw it on his bayliner 205. workin out really nicely.
(We had a dealer put it on for us. Not going to risk messing up)

The Aerial Airborne is a good choice. Monster is a good tower too, but may be a little tough to get into your budget figure (depending on which one). Some others might chime in. DIY has some good options, as well.

when you guys put a tower on your I/o it really makes the boat look cool and probably adds value to the boat, so it can be a good value. But what I think really looks stupid is a tower on an inboard ski boat, like a response, my extended pylon does just as good as any tower, even though it doesn't look cool.

ryan, not on wakesetters, but the inboard "ski" boats like the response, there is no reason to put on a tower when the extended pylon works just fine. The I/O cannot use the extended pylons, so they must get a tower. Why put a tower on a wanna be wakeboard boat(response)? Its like seeing a tower on a waverunner wtf?

Board storage, high bimini, lights, tower speakers, etc. etc.

nice try dragon, "Board storage, high bimini, lights, tower speakers, etc. etc." yet you will never buy one of those boats, why is that?

buckthis, I definitely would not hesitate to buy an older MC 205, or Sport Nautique (the boat I started riding behind) etc. I've actually been tempted to buy a few older 2001's, but I don't really have space to store it right now.
You asked what the point is, and I gave you an answer. I don't get where the whole "yet you will never buy one of these boats" (false) assertion comes from. I can tell you this much, if I was buying a DD I would definitely be putting a tower on it if it didn't already have one.
Look, I'm not trying to bust your chops, to think they look stupid or whatever is your MO. But they do serve a purpose over extended pylons, especially on boats where space is limited. Maybe you don't care about those things, some people do.

buckthis, I put a monster tower on my 92 Ski Nautique Open Bow for all the reasons DRAGON88 mentioned. I had the extended pylon with 4 board board rack. It SUCKED! I kept smacking into the thing every time I stood up and it was impossible to put a bimini up. Did I mention the noobie trying to help that had the board slip out of his hands and gash my engine cover vinyl?
Also buckthis, properly weighted my 92 SNOB had a better wake then most I/O's, it had a heck of a lot more low end torque, and most of all it met my price range at the time.
If for some reason I had a financial crisis and had to dig myself out of a hole, I'd take the same route... older DD lower cost boat to keep me on the water, then upgrade to something bigger and badder as disposable income became greater.

buckthis, because they're good boats, some have the same hulls as their V-drive counterpart.
Why not?

because you have access to a VLX! aren't you riding behind a VLX? why would you buy a dd after having ridden behind a VLX? I have a VLX, but I'd rather ride behind this ski boat because it has a cool tower.

| My dad has a '98 MC DD 205 and it has a great wake. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it even though I regularly ride dumped VLXs, SANs or the occasional X-star. I will say that when we upgraded from an extended pylon to a tower it made a huge difference, no longer was a I pulling the boat all over the place. Plus if it increases the value of a i/o cruiser why wouldn't it do the same for a boat designed for watersports?

There is something to be said for a classic boat. True classics never die. Some of the old goodies like dragon mentioned or a sunsetter or something that you used to ride on.. I could totally see getting one of them and then fixing it as a side hobby just to restore a classic.
If you think having a tower on any DD is silly, then I'd say you're misinformed. As dragon mentioned, many of the DD have the hulls of the now 80,000 dollar boats.
There's just something about a classic. I don't think I'd ever run two boats, but I could see wanting to restore one just to take out and put put around on or take a nostalgia run.

I just put a tower on and replaced my homemade pylon set up. Just a few pros and cons I have found. The best thing is i now have my boat back because I no longer have 4 board laying around the boat and the space back from the pole and straps well worth it, the only down side, and it may just be my boat, is it tends to take a few more seconds to jump on plain because it is pulling from a point further forward in the boat compared to the pole. I have a different boat then most of the others on here because I live 5 minuets from the ocean/intercoastal water way I want a boat I can fish and shrimp from as well as wakeboard and ski so a dual console is the perfect compromise for me
here is the $300 tower I got off ebay
This is the old pole set up worked great just took up space and no place for the boards

LOL my last boat was a center console but they have little to no room for passengers, My new boat can seat 5 in the rear and 3 in the front compared to my CC that I could only get the driver in the center and a couple of people up front that was it, the CSX is a sweet boat though and offers a ton of seating but is out of my $$$
