| I'm riding a board with 2.5 inch rocker and no fins. my question is, is a 2.5 inch rocker suitable for getting decent air, and would putting fins on my board help with taking off or landing at all? |

Is it a continuous rocker, 3-stage or hybrid? Do you have any fins at all? Or you just mean you have no centre fins, but have some fins on the sides of the board?
Mmmmm personally I've found that centre fins don't make any difference to me, as when you're jumping your coming in, taking off and landing on an edge.
It's more about technique than the board you're riding.
There's plenty of threads on here with great advice on how to 'pop'. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore! |

| its a hybrid rocker and i currently have no fins on it at all. It has molded fins but I'm asking about whether or not adding center fins would help any. So is a 2.5 inch hybrid rocker good for getting pop or would a 3 stage rocker allow you to get more air? |

My board has a hybrid rocker and pops like a biyatch! You should be fine with just the side moulded in fins, that's also what I have - I don't use centre fins - I pop and clear the wake with no issues.
As I said it's about technique really, so I'd stop worrying about the board.
It's about setting that prograssive edge, keeping the handle low and into your lead hip on approach and standing tall at the right moment as you hit the wake. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore! |

i dont know how you can justify "as hard as i can" it should be fluid, and not a all of a sudden, and you shouldnt be trying to jump like you would on land, just a half second motion from squatting to standing by the time your on the top of the wake, its not somthing you should over think either, just somthing you have to do and thenit sorta comes naturally every time you go for a w2w

Well it's not really like jumping on land, it's more like jumping on a trampoline, it's a downward push, not a jump up and you should never be trying to jump over the wake.
Sadly it's not something that comes naturally, it takes practice, practice, practice. To crack this, I'd concentrate on just jumping one wake to start until you get the technique down, then you can gradually increase the distance and height. Once you have the technique, then you will find you automatically go further each time.
No, you don't want to flatten your board. Once you've set on your progressive edge, you stay on it right the way through your approach, take off and landing.
The whole process should be smooth, not too fast. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore! |

| what i was saying about it comes naturally, is once you actually have the technique down and have done it perfect over and over again, i never have to think of standing tall, i just do it, but htat may be just me |

brad504, Chocoholic gives GREAT advice.
Keep your edge all the way through the wake and don't think of it as 'jumping' or 'pushing on the wake', think of it as just standing tall at the top of the wake. This will help you get a smoother motion down and simplify things. (always keep it simple!)
As everyone says, practice, practice, practice.
And leave the center fins off. Putting them on will let you 'cheat' a little on your edge and it will develop bad/lazy habits that will be hard to break! |
