|
|
So I blew out my new this year riding in a tourny.. Im about 2 months post op now, and am beginning to look at braces. My PT and Surgeon both are big DonJoy guys. They are not very familiar with CTI or ossur in general. They were however asking a question that I didnt really know the answer too. What makes CTI preferred over DonJoy for wakeboarders? They were curious if it was just a popular thing, or if there were actually advantages that the CTI had over DJ. Thanks guys for any input. _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

only thing that makes a brace better for Wakeboarding is how much water the padding absorbs... I have an EVS, the padding is like a neoprene rubber.... absorbs almost no water...
But, it dosent fit me all that well.... So im going to end up going back to my ortho to get a DonJoy... They are all so close, i dont think the manufacturer is as big of a factor as customer service / fitment... and the DonJoy rep comes to my ortho and does the fitment himself...
bottom line, I really dont think you can go wrong with any custom fit brace. _________________ When life hands you a Jeffrey just rub the furry walls... |

| I got a DonJoy because it seemed less bulky/shorter than most and I love it. You can adjust it to your leg pretty well. I got the DJ Fource Point one. |

| I am probably going to go with the don joy definace III when my doctor lets me in about 4-5 months...some guy i was talking to said his doctor told him "i didn't repair your knee for you to wear a brace" and that "a brace does actually more damage than good"....anyone else heard this before?? |

Sure have... its kind of a common theory among orthos... The belief is that the brace will hinder your "full" recovery because it reduces the need for your muscles to support your knee.... there is also a belief that you will take it for granted that your knee is indestructable because your wearing a brace... I totaly agree with this, braces can be a crutch... Which is why I dont wear a brace to play hockey, snowboard, softball, ect.... Gotta let my muscles do their thing and hold my knee together...
But wakeboarding is a totaly different animal... Odds are that your ortho has never ridden and dosent know what its like to cut in hard and stand tall at the wake... he dosent understand the kind of forces at work... I will never wakeboard without my brace... if its not in the boat, I dont ride...
In my case (everyone has different experiences) wakeboarding puts 10x more lateral stress on my knee than any other sport... and when you catch an edge you dont have a chance to fire those support muscles... which means all the stress is on your ligaments... now im no doctor, but that is my own personal assesment...
I guess the best advice I could give is- Ride without the brace, if it feels unstable, get a brace... you will know right away. _________________ When life hands you a Jeffrey just rub the furry walls... |
