soo i was carrying a huge heavy glass tabletop down some stairs with a friend of mine the other day. The table had a chipped corner and as i was carrying it, it started to slip and it fell out of my hand and sliced the hell outta my left index finger... The glass severed one of my tendons so i was able to bend the tip of my finger. I had surgery and the tendon was re-attached but im in a pretty serious soft cast with a splint for at least 2-3 weeks.
Has anyone ever had a similar accident or any problems with fingers? What can i expect in rehab? The doctor said this is the hardest injury to recover from in terms of getting full mobility back.... I'm pretty bummed and bored out of my mind since i can't even hold the controller to play ps3!! Any replies would be great.. Thanks guys
got some new pics from the doctor... enjoy..or try to enjoy!
******UPDATE: uploaded as many pics as i could find.. time for some blood!******

| I had a couple of friends in high school that pulled tendons in their fingers. They both had surgery to re-attach the tendons and made full recoveries. I don't remember either of them being significantly disabled for very long.

Dude, that sucks. I'm sorry, especially for being out of commission with no ability to game.

had a very similar injury. i was in a motorcycle accident where i rolled over my own index finger snapping it off backwards.
rehab was hard and my surgeon said i'd never make a fist again but I can. Not sure if you have pin in your finger but I did and it sucked getting it pulled out and it's frustrating relearning to pick coins up up the ground...
stay on your rehab, after the cast comes off make sure you get your hand in warm water a lot and just working on bending it...
good luck dude!
here's a pic of my surgical scar for fun.

My brother had a Rottweiler almost tear his thumb off, and had to go through the re-attached tendon surgery. Did the rehab and has full mobility, hell, he was riding 2 months after it happened.

Craig-R, oh yeah dude, i wanted to kill the physical therapist. Just make sure you take a pain killer before PT otherwise you might not make through it depending on how hard core they are. I had no idea the finger would be such a painful therapy but what ended up really helping me get full ROM out of it was hitting up the cable (not immediately) and just kind of doing curls with my finger and riding around making a fist then letting my fingers out. Obviously don't go out and try tricks, just stretch it out. Some of the stuff they did just seemed stupid. They would dunk my hand in this super hot wax until i couldn't take it anymore than pull my hand out. You can do more on your own just by slowing increasing how many degrees you can push it with your other hand forward and backwards. Mine ended up infected and he had to do an I&D to boot and he said there was a lot of arthritis in there obviously from the wakeboarding. The only time it has ever hurt was when i went to colorado and the cold kind of flared it up. Otherwise you will be good to go in no time. I feel like I was out for 1-2 months max. The worst part was when I would get sudden shooting pain out of nowhere.
Only surgery so far. The knee definitely needs to be cleaned up but I'm not dealing with being on crutches and pain killers for a month.

I dont know if this is similar or not but your making me think that I might be fixable. I had a rope loop around the end of my middle finger that was attached to a big ass log and it felt like it almost pulled it of. I can bend my finger at the knuckle but the upper part is completely stiff. I also have a really hard knot developing in that joint. It only hurts if I bump it so I have just been waiting to let it heal on its on. That was a month ago though. Maybe I need to see a doc.

Craig-R, yeah get ready for the pain to be brought. You are going to want to punch your PT in the face.

Egh, these are nasty. Carrying glass tables is a dangerous proposition. A female friend of mine was carrying one when the person on the other side dropped their side. All in one motion - the glass top hit the ground, creating a sharp edge, then landed on her foot, slicing all of the tendons across the top of her foot.

| that's weird that photobucket said two of the pics violated terms of use, but as long as there was a surgeon's hand in the picture, it didn't matter how gruesome or bloody the picture was
