| went down to cumberland this week and decided to take my old slalom ski( grew up slalom skiing did all the time until tony finn invented the skerfer and have been boarding ever since)so i tried getting up on it and just couldn't hold on to the handle long enough to get up. i have been doing the pro start a few years now, and it is so easy to get up, i guess i lost the strength to do it maybe next week i can find someone with combo skis see if i can get up on 2 and drop one. has this happened to anybody else? |

| Try leaving your back foot out and drag that foot it until you are up. Also stay crouched really low until you are sure you are up. Then again you could just strap on your wakeboard and have more fun anyway. haha |

nice
I slalomed until I started wakeboarding in '98-'99. I tried it once back in '02 I think and it felt so awkward. I kept asking myself "how did I ever do this?" I think I'd be better on 2 skis.
But yeah, it takes a lot more strength to get up on a slalom ski and you need a boat that can shoot out of the hole.
Slaloming is boring though. Not worth the effort. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I tried it last summer, and yup, about the same result. I gave it about 3 shots, and said f*** it, toss me my board I blame it on the rope though _________________

| It isn't a strength issue, it is a technique issue. The same holds true for wakeboarding. I lost count of the number of people that have told me they don't have the strength to get up wakeboarding, and then get up first time when I tell them how. |

Try putting the rope to one side of the ski and use it as a guide. Keep your ski at an angle toward the boat. keep crouched until you plane out.
if you do not have high wrap boots then pull out the back foot and place it behind you and you can use it like a rudder (helps keep your balance) |

If there's no slalom course, yes. Otherwise I disagree. If there was one around here I'd still give it a shot once in a while.
What matt1080 said is definitely true, it's about technique. You also don't need a boat with crazy holeshot, my first boat had 20hp and I got out on one ski. Took a while, indeed _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

technique over boat in most cases (ski/wakeboard boat) as time passes most people will forget the common basics or little things of getting up and think they're out of the "cocoon" when they're still halfway in the water _________________ www.wakeboardforum.net |

My girl slalom skis like a champ. She bought a "cheater" rope. It has a triangle section just before the handle to craddle the ski till you get up. She pops up everytime. It looks fun actually... thought about getting myself an old "beater" ski for cheap. _________________ '08 Mobius LS |

| I have never tried that way. When I teach new people, I tell them to put the rope on the outside (same side as whichever foot you have in front). Then point the tip of the ski at 1 o'clock for right foot forward, or 11 o'clock for left forward. That combination should keep you tracking straight through the start. |

thats exactly how i do it, i just couldn't hold on long enough to get to a standing position. |

sinjun, right, that is just for balance. I would guess you either don't have your knees pulled up into your chest enough, or you are standing too soon. Done correctly there isn't that much pull.
Wakeboarding creates a lot of bad habits for skiing, if you don't ski for a while. |

step 1: Let the ski rest on the rope while the driver has it in gear. If you can't stay up when you're getting dragged learn that. (make sure the back of the ski is tucked up under your butt).
step2: Say "go" and take a big breath and hold it for the facewash to come.
step3: Hold for the initial plow and when you start to feel the water spraying on your face with less intensity start to stand up and when you feel yourself starting to plane out, put a little more weight on your front foot to even out the ski and save yourself some more face wash.
I personally do think there is a fair amount of pull getting up on slalom, but I'm sure part of it is weak technique and the fact that it simply takes longer to be "up". _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

ya this is probably all that is keeping you from getting up, just get that ski up under your butt so it doesnt drag in the water. haha |

LOL,
I just started wakeboarding this summer and the first thing I thought was wow this is so easy to get up on. maybe I don't have the best technique but its worked for the past thirty years but I have always tend to just muscle my way up on a slalom once the boat is at full pull I just stab my back leg down as hard as possible until I pop up the only tip that ever seemed to help was my dad telling me many years ago to look at the top of the antenna when starting, I still tend to look high to this day and feel it helps quite a bit, now if I could only get down the timing of keeping my edge and standing tall at the same time on this wakeboard. |

| I dont care how much technique someone has, getting up slalom is still at least ten times harder than a wakeboard. |

yea there is alot more force put on you getting up slalom then boarding, thats why most of the tower manufacturers say to only pull wakeboards no slalom or tubes. |
