To help with getting over the fear of going upside down on the board? I'm good at both heel and toe side w2w's now and decided to start trying for a tantrum but I do the same thing very time. When I come in and switch my edges I let the wake trip me but I bend over at the waist and end up kind sitting down in the air and flipping onto my shoulders...

Is there maybe some kind of low impact exercise I can do to get used to flipping?

Id have to say either a trampoline....or just commit and make sure you get your hips to the sky first

A trampoline would help, or you could also try a hs backroll. its different for every one which invert is easiest to learn, maybe you are a backroll kinda guy.

just starting working on a backroll yesterday, getting a tramp next month but i just committed myself to it finally, now did it turn out too well....not really, but i know what to do differently next time, main thing is commit, half arse attempts at anything is going to get you hurt

Well the fall aren't hurting at all...yet. but I know that one of them is going to if I can't get it down.

I don't really have 300 to spend on a trampoline. I used to do backflips on them when I was a kid though.

Its not really a problem commiting to the trick, its a problem with my bodies natural instinct to try to counter the trip by throwing my weight forward. I do it without even thinnking of it. Maybe I'll try some back rolls next time I'm out instead.

I really want to have 3's, 1 invert and switch riding down before the end of this season.

try doin a backflip off the side of the boat... landing back on your feet is the same as a tanny... if u dont have a tramp this is something that worked 4 me and also its just water so its not painful... good luck

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about Enygma, I used to have same problem. I went out today and spent some time throwing tantrums, I still haven't landed it but I'm extremely close, but I know the difference between of what I did and what I do now.
Its all in the approach, get a good bit of momentum coming into the wake (before you get to it) and try and jump straight up instead of throwing your board over your head. It's using your shoulders and your head to initiate the roatation instead of thinking about the "tripping" motion.
I got the word "trip" out of my head and thought of it as more of a pop straight up and you carry your momentum to flip over the wake, it's difficult for me to explain, and I apologize for my poor attempt, but just analyze videos of successful tantrums and pause when they are at the wake and look at their board/body postion.

There's 2 different rotations you can do with a the tantrum and each one is to setup for different tricks. Knees bent and layed out. Knees bent allows for a faster rotation. But either way the spin should be initiated by throwing your head and shoulders back.

Maybe my folks still have their trampoline. So far all the hardest parts of wakeboarding have been breaking old habits. I will have it by the end of this season, that much I am determined to do.
