Its just the clock. You could tape a stopwatch to your dash if you wanted to. But yeah its just the hours.(Which makes it easy for people to turn back, so watch out!)

If you sit with it running while someone is putting on their board, your adding hours to your boat.

Some hourmeters run off the tach, but some run if you have the key in the accessory position, so it kind of depends on the boat.

doubleup,

how many hours do you have on your boat? I have seen boats last up to 800 hours or more. take care of them and they will take care of you.

I've got 650 and my boat is still running strong... This year I'll easilly top 900.

I'll probably see at least 3000 or so before any major engine work.

Just take care of it, change the oil at 50 hour intervals and never, ever, run it above the temperature limits... A boat with 400-500 hours is just getting broken in if taken care of correctly.

Key word "care" I bought an x-star w/ under 200 hours. Motor wasnt well maintained and was trashed. Thats like under 6k miles on a car!!! Easy check the oil change the oil and take care of the running gear.

Generally, a well-maintained boat will give you at least 1500 hours.

It all depends on how they have been treated. You HAVE to service your boat. I have never owned a boat, but have shopped around for plenty. I bought a jet ski and put about a day on it. It ran SOO smooth. Just make sure to care for it after every use.

you can clock hours just by haveing the key on... the boat doesnt have to be running. Once you give power to that little purple wire that runs everywhere under your dash you are clocking hours. Not to mention hours are also logged in the ecm.
